TEAM/PROGRAMME: Health and Nutrition

LOCATION: Nuwakot with frequent visit to Rasuwa

CONTRACT LENGTH: 10 months

CHILD SAFEGUARDING: Level 2: The post holder will have access to personal data about children and/or young people as part of their work; or the post holder will be working in a ‘regulated’ position (accountant, barrister, solicitor, legal executive); therefore a police check will be required (at ‘standard’ level in the UK or equivalent in other countries).


ROLE PURPOSE:

The WASH Officer is responsible for overview of all the components of the water supply,sanitation and hygiene; especially focusing on the construction of the water supply system at the field. She/He is responsible to ensure the quality of the system to meet the standard set by the project. Provide technical support to the team and monitor the schemes frequently confirming the functionality of the system.


In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, s/he will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.


KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY : 

  • Participate and contribute in the process for development quarterly report-and assists WASH Coordinator for timely review to prepare the project report and accommodate necessary revisions;
  • Monitor WASH component construction at field and define work progress timely as per the set milestone and project target.
  • Recommend necessary revision on the construction and activity and provide specific remedy to address it
  • Assess the staff development needs, partners' development needs, and capacitate them.
  • Community mobilization to be led and controlled for other compliance
  • Represent the project in the capacity of Field WASH Officer in relevant meetings and workshops at field level; 
  • Coordinate and network with relevant stakeholders for smooth implementation of the project at user committee level, Rural Municipality level and district level as per the need of project.
  • Maintain good relationship within the team, in house projects/staff, partners and stakeholders to contribute in achieving the goals and objectives of the project;

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering with minimum of three years experiences in WASH sector.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • Understanding and experience of the local mechanism for the emergency response activities for water supply, sanitation and hygiene management
  • Understanding the conflict sensitive project management
  • Field movement flexibility , with ability to deal with diverse condition
  • Field experience in survey, detail design estimate and implementation of WASH activities;
  • Knowledge on sanitation Indicators.

Desirable

  • Energetic and having passion for rehabilitation activities
  • Understanding of issues related to gender, social equity and poverty alleviation
  • Understands principles of good governance
  • Result oriented personality/maintaining deadlines
  • Good interpersonal, intercultural competencies
  • Fluency in Nepali and English, both written and oral
