Description of the Position:

This position requires to ensure effective implementation of the WASH and Holistic Development Project focusing the design and construction of water and sanitation facilities, low cost housing project, technical backstopping, compliance monitoring and coordinating with organizations working in similar field, government organizations and local stakeholders to produce desired output and outcome.

Key Relationships

Internally:

  • Executive Director, Deputy Directors, Thematic Managers/Officers and Support Staff

Externally:

  • Duhabi Municipality, wards (1-6) and technical section of Muncipality,Municipal WASH Coordination Committee,Ward WASH Coordination Committee,Municipality level Project Steering Committee, School Management Committee ( 9 schools),Child clubs, Construction/Users committee, Duhabi Water Supply Project, Ministry of Physical planning and Development and other government bodies and like-minded organizations

Role:

  • To provide technical support and supervise construction works carried out in partnership with Duhabi Municipality on WASH and low cost housing in Duhabi Municipality

Responsibilities

Responsibility 1: Planning

  • Prepare weekly supervision and movement plan
  • Work with the local government for design, layout and cost estimation  of facilities
  • Introduce cost effective practice in WASH and low cost housing facilities construction
  • Plan for sustainability including provision of Operation and Maintenance system

Responsibility 2: Implementation

  • Manage and provide necessary technical assistance for construction related works in Duhabi Municipality
  • Prepare layout/ design estimation for WASH facilities and low cost housing 
  • Review/verify layout/design prepared by local government
  • Site visit and survey
  • Provide training for Masons on earthquake resistance construction
  • Facilitate procurement, storage and supply of construction material in close coordination with Municipality
  • Orientation of the Users committee on pre-construction and post construction
  • Review bills and work completion report of contractor and recommend for payment

Responsibility 3: Monitoring and Supervision 

  • Monitor and supervise construction related work for timely completion and quality assurance
  • Monitor compliance with existing policies, plans and program of sector
  • Technical backstopping
  • Monitor and assure the quality of work delivered
  • Progress monitoring of constructed structures and submission to office

Responsibility 4: Coordination and Communication

  • Coordinate with all the stakeholders and monitor that the project completes on time and inform the supervisor if there is any issue that might delay the project
  • Make internal (within the organization) and external communication with all stakeholders of program for the effective implementation of the project
  • Timely reporting to the supervisor and central office regarding challenges, learning, information on local dynamics or any other information that is relevant to project implementation.
  • Regular follow up of day to day construction works

Responsibility 5: Documentation and Reporting

  • During and after field visits, ensure prompt reporting to the supervisor and Central Office including challenges, learning, information on local dynamics or any other information relevant to project implementation
  • Maintain documentation and record of construction activities

Responsibility 6: Other

  • Provides assistance in other Karuna projects whenever asked
  • Coordinate with all KFN staff as necessary
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor
  • Required knowledge/skills and abilities

Education and Experience:

  • A minimum of Bachelor in Engineering (BE) or equivalent  from recognized institution of Nepal and a minimum of 2 years’ experience in similar position or working in government/Non-governmental organisation
  • In lieu of qualification, Diploma in Engineering and relevant five year's experience also may be considered.
  • Knowledge of Disability friendly construction and low cost innovation for disadvantaged communities

Skills and abilities:

  • Language proficiency in Nepali, English and local language will be an added advantage
  • Ability to adapt for latest technologies including AutoCAD.
