BBC Media Action uses various forms of media and communications to tackle poverty and contribute to long-term change in some of the world’s poorest places. To achieve this, we partner with civil society, local media and governments to:

  • Produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences and
  • Strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure.

  • Our work in Nepal focuses on governance, resilience and humanitarian preparedness and response with strong gender commitments and focus. BBC Media Action Nepal Office is about to start a research and communications project funded by World Food Programme (WFP) to support improved nutrition and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) outcomes in schools and communities in 10 different districts. The work will complement and reinforce WFP’s ongoing Nepal School Meals Programme (NSMP) particularly feeding into its strategies to increase knowledge and uptake of healthier WASH and nutrition practices.

    Job Description

    Location: Kathmandu, (with travel to other districts in Nepal)
    Reports to: Project Director
    Level: 6
    Duration: 4.5 months (16 April 2017 to 31 August 2017)

    Main Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Plan, implement and deliver training and mentoring to two partner stations around water, sanitation, and hygiene promotion intervention;
    • Work with the research team to determine behavioral insights from which to build effective communications around;
    • Work with local partners in each of working districts to facilitate dissemination of IEC content within community listener clubs;
    • Coordinate with community level authorities, to ensure community participation and hygiene practices are improved;
    • Provide periodic update reports (including data collection, minutes from meetings, and key achievements for the month) and
    • Plan and manage financial resources needed for quality implementation.

    Essential Skills and Experience:

    • Experience in radio and/or television broadcasting and an understanding of the media landscape in Nepal;
    • Previous experience of working in a project related role preferably in health and nutrition;
    • Previous experience of producing of PSAs including developing storylines, identifying suitable characters, recording, and editing of radio programs;
    • A proven track record in monitoring and tracking project activities;
    • Experience in identifying and designing training interventions and an understanding of different learning styles;
    • Demonstrable experience in stakeholder management and building strong and effective partnership systems and
    • Fluent in written and spoken Nepali and English. Knowledge of local language/s will be an added advantage.
