Technical Specialist – Antimicrobial Use (AMU)/ Antimicrobial Consumption (AMC)

The Technical Specialist – AMU/AMC will be responsible for activities related to supporting and strengthening the capacity and systems for AMU/AMC surveillance in humans and animals. S/he will coordinate and collaborate with the Quality Standards and Regulatory Division (QSRD), Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), Department of Drug Administration (DDA) and Veterinary Standard Drugs Regulatory Laboratory (VSDRL), Department of Livestock Services (DLS) on AMU and AMC surveillance activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support to develop systems for AMU and AMC surveillance and data sharing. 
  • Provide support to QSRD/MOHP, DDA, VSDRL and DLS to develop protocols, guidelines, implementation plans and reports as well as disseminate findings. 
  • Collect, collate, review, analyze and visualize data related to AMU and AMC patterns in human and animal populations. 
  • Support to map, investigate and/or assess antibiotic distribution and use in Aqua. 
  • Support and ensure that the national AMU/AMC Technical Working group (TWG) functions effectively and participate in other national-level TWGs, as needed. 
  • Liaise and coordinate activities with Fleming Fund Country Grant for Nepal (FFCGN) program staff. 
  • Support to conduct AMC and AMU surveys in Human Health (HH) and support in Animal Health (AH). 
  • Provide support to DDA to enable it to track imports, manufacture and distribution of antimicrobials and development of database for ongoing monitoring and World Health Organization AMC Global Antimicrobial Resistance and Use Surveillance System (GLASS) reporting. 
  • Prepare and submit AMC/AMU-related data and reports in accordance with national, regional and global standards and requirements. 
  • Coordinate and collaborate with stakeholders working in AMU/AMC and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). 
  • Support in clinical engagement and stewardship activities. 
  • Master’s degree in pharmacy or relevant field with two to three years of experience in a relevant field or bachelor’s degree or relevant field in pharmacy with three to five years of experience in relevant sector preferably in AMR, AMU, AMC or disease surveillance or public health programs. 
  • Experience in collaborating with local partners and government organizations and entities. 
  • Understanding of drug distribution information systems. 
  • Experience working on AMU survey, drug distribution and AMC surveillance with skills in data collection, analysis and interpretation and study/survey design (preferred). 
  • Proactive in managing multiple tasks, managing, and working in the virtual work environment, and flexible and open to managing time for working with different teams in different time zones as needed. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, team building and management, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent oral and written English and Nepali including documentation skills
