Women for Human Rights, single women group (WHR) based in Nepal is a leading NGO established in 1995, specializing in advocacy and empowerment of women's rights with a core focus on Single women’s in Nepal and the South Asia region. WHR is one of the founding members and the secretariat office for SANWED (South Asian Network of Widows Empowerment in Development). WHR works for values and principles of non-discrimination, respect and dignity, equity for equality, justice, inclusion, unity in diversity, cooperation, transparency and accountability.

In this context, WHR is seeking for a full time Strategic Officer in order to register the new federation, develop a strategic plan with policy and guidelines, and strengthen a provincial network in all the seven provinces of Nepal with its main office in Kathmandu.

Objective, Assignments and Deliverables:

The Strategic Officer for this task should be dedicated and directed towards development and establishment of the Women's NGO Federation, strategic support towards the Sankalpa which is Secretariat of the Women NGO Federation.

Objective/s:

  • Facilitate to establish Woman NGO Federation and organize a strategy process with full coordination at Sankalpa the secretariat of the federation.

Key activities under the assignment:

The Strategic Officer will, conduct the following tasks in close coordination with the executives of federation and secretariat.

  • Consultation and the inputs required in the registration process
  • Facilitate the tasks as a top level management providing proper guidance at the secretariat and represent secretariat also in different networks and the meetings
  • Create a liaison between the Secretariat and the Executive committee of the federation for the proper flow of information and intervention 
  • Proper knowhow of the plans to strengthen the provincial as well as district level networks of the federation 
  • Envision a five year plan by reviewing, analyzing, strength, and strategic opportunities with members of the federation and priorities the strategic direction of the federation 
  • Maintain a proper communication channel and communication with the executive committee to develop and update of policies, laws, and plans related to Gender issues.

Deliverables:

The Strategic Officer is expected to deliver following deliverables to the federation

  • Proper documentation of the completed registration of the federation and the strategic documents for the policies, plan and complete guidelines.
  • The strategic document with the proper SWOC analysis and the different plan of actions for next few years in coordination and communication with the executive committee.
  • The resources and the technical support towards the network ahead is mapped out and well coordinated.
  • The organizational members are well informed and capacitated with network functioning modality to pursue the core values of federation at all level
  • The action plan vs.  progress details are prepared quarterly for the sharing and the feedback. 

Selection criteria:

Knowledge:

  • Masters in Social Science or relevant field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience on strategy development, on the women movement of Nepal

Skills:

  • Good interpersonal communications skills
  • Ability to work as a team player
  • Self- management skills and strong interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English language.
  • Proficiency in computer skills for the tasks assigned.
  • Willingness to travel in the different places of country.

Attitudes:

  • High level of integrity
  • Ability to perform unsupervised
  • Organized and systematic approach to work

Timeline:

The Strategic Officer will be hired for a time period of one year with the possibility of extension.
