Key Responsibilities:  

A staff nurse at an ART Clinic plays a critical role in the comprehensive care of patients living with HIV/AIDS. She should provide direct patient care, administering antiretroviral medications, and ensuring patients adhere to their treatment regimens through regular follow-ups and health assessments. She educates patients about HIV/AIDS, counseling them on medication adherence, lifestyle modifications, and providing emotional support. Clinical duties involve monitoring and documenting patients' vital signs, symptoms, and responses to treatment, while promptly reporting any adverse reactions to the supervising physician. She also implements infection control protocols to prevent the spread of HIV and other infections, ensuring the safe handling and disposal of medical waste. Additionally, she engages in community outreach to raise awareness about HIV prevention and treatment, participate in health promotion activities, and stay updated on advancements in HIV care through continuous professional development. By assisting patients in accessing social services and advocating for their needs, the staff nurse supports patients in navigating the healthcare system and enhances their overall well-being. He/she is the represents AHF Nepal at local and province level to prove the efficacy and effectiveness of AHF Nepal’s project. 

Required qualification and competencies: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree B.N. or PCL in Nursing with proficiency certificate in Nursing (Staff Nurse) from recognized academic institution. 
  • More than 2 year of previous experience working in a healthcare setting, particularly in HIV/AIDS care or related fields, is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS: A strong understanding of HIV/AIDS, its transmission, treatment, and care is essential. Familiarity with antiretroviral therapy (ART) and its management, as well as knowledge of current guidelines and best practices in HIV/AIDS care.
  • Counseling and Support Skills: Experience in providing counseling and support services to individuals living with HIV/AIDS or other chronic illnesses. This includes skills in empathy, active listening, and the ability to address emotional, psychological, and social needs of patients.
  • Clinic Operations: Experience in clinic operations, including appointment scheduling, medical record management, and coordination with healthcare providers. Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and healthcare administration processes is advantageous.
  • Teamwork and Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for collaborating with healthcare providers, patients, and community organizations. The ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team setting is crucial.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Experience working with diverse populations and an understanding of cultural, social, and economic factors influencing HIV/AIDS care is important. Sensitivity to issues related to stigma, discrimination, and health disparities is valuable.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of relevant regulations, ethical guidelines, and confidentiality requirements related to HIV/AIDS care, patient privacy, and data management is necessary.
  • Continuous Learning: Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and staying updated on advancements and research in HIV/AIDS care is important.
