Job Description

IDS Media has an immediate opening for a Sports Reporter at its digital platform to cover sports and related issues across the country. The successful candidate must have a strong command of the English language with digital and social media skills. Ideal candidate will be versatile and flexible, able to juggle a variety of assignments across different teams and sports. 

Responsibilities:

• Follow news events and other media sources to keep abreast with all the local and global happening.
• Conduct and schedule interviews of players, coaches and other individuals from the sports sector. 
• Verify information provided by interviewees. 
• Stick to deadlines as timeliness is extremely important
• Assist content producers, photographers, digital editors, and reporters with story gathering for all IDS Media platforms.
• Flag breaking news and feature stories, and pitch story ideas.
• Other duties as required.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or related field

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Good understanding of sports regulations and terminologies.
• Must understand and be able to observe journalistic standards.
• Plan, edit, and write stories and articles at a professional level adhering to the house style for publication.
• Must be organized and able to multi-task. 
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and research skills.
• As circumstances dictate, you may also be asked to take still photographs, shoot video, or shoot and produce on-camera video segments about your reporting.
• Ready to work at weekends and/or odd hours, especially in the case of breaking news, late-night news conferences, and similar events.
