Position: Specialist - Business Development

Reports to: Sr. Manager - Resource Development & Communications
Field Visits: 40% travel (Domestic)

Core Function: The incumbent will work closely with the Resource Development (RD) and Communication Team at Habitat Nepal, and will contribute to the overall fundraising by developing appealing programs, writing proposals, and building donor networks and relationships.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

New Business Development (60%)

  • Lead proposal development process, ensuring formation of a bid team, organizing and facilitating project design workshops, authoring content, budget development and compliance checks for assigned bids.
  • Coordinate with Program, MEAL, Finance and relevant departments to ensure technical inputs to new project design and proposal development ensuring program quality. 
  • Identify best practices to incorporate and mainstream into program design, and innovative approaches to pilot and setup for scale to ensure projects create lasting impact. 
  • Contribute to the pre-positioning efforts of Habitat Nepal, fine-tuning our value proposition, complementarity and added value to donors and partner agencies.
  • Lead tithe stewardship, quality analysis of new and existing donors, and support donor engagement. 
  • Identify and assess international corporates and corporate foundations for partnership opportunities, including project funding, and corporate volunteering opportunities. 
  • Lead special events such as Legacy Builds, Youth Builds, Celebrity and Ambassador events, and special donor engagement tours to bring awareness and commitment to the mission of Habitat Nepal. 
  • Contribute to formulation and implementation of Habitat Nepal’s resource development strategy and action plan. 
  • Support the development and maintenance of systems and processes enabling Habitat to respond better to business opportunities.
  • Collaborate with communications colleagues to ensure donor-facing collaterals, messaging and communications is appropriate, relevant and timely.

Donor Reporting (20%)

  • Build and maintain relationships within Habitat network to secure resources for Habitat Nepal’s mission.
  • Identify opportunities for partnerships within the GFN network to secure quality, multi-year funding for Habitat Nepal programs.
  • Represent Habitat Nepal in external platforms with the view of establishing, maintaining and improving working relationships with partner agencies. 
  • Assume other duties as assigned.

Strategic Partnerships (20%)

Education Qualification and Professional Experience

  • A master’s degree in development studies, or related subjects. 
  • At least 5 years of experience in the field of resource development.  
  • Excellent knowledge and demonstrated experience in resource mobilization and business development processes with major institutional donors, including fundraising strategy development, donor engagement, and proposal development. 
  • Understanding and experience in award/grant management, ensuring donor compliance and reporting 
  • Direct contribution in successfully securing funding from bilateral, multilateral, corporate, and private donors.     

Knowledge and Competencies

  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills; innovative and creative thinker.
  • Willingness and ability to work closely with other departments, institutions, and across cultures.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and produce high quality results.
  • Excellent research and analysis, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-driven.
