Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) Specialist – Environment and Climate Change

Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) Specialist is responsible to lead and manage SBCC program planning, design, implementation and monitoring of SBCC activities including digital solutions for USAID Clean Air project to promote and facilitate positive social and behavior change at individual, community, and societal levels. S/he will also be responsible for overall managing communications portfolio (including documentation and dissemination of communication materials, knowledge products, success stories and good practices) to ensure strategic, quality, effective and efficient communications of the project and its activities to the diverse stakeholder. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with project team including partners to understand the target audience, their characteristics, attitudes, beliefs, behaviors, needs, preferences, identify the barriers and facilitators to desired behaviors and, develop and implement SBCC strategy framework and effective communication strategies.
  • Ensure development of clear, compelling, culturally appropriate, and persuasive messages, materials, and tools including print materials, radio scripts, social media campaigns, videos, and interactive platforms to effectively communicate with different segments of the target audience for maximum impact. 
  • Building the capacity of project staff, partners, and stakeholders in SBCC approaches and techniques through training workshops, providing technical assistance, and developing guidelines and resources to support effective communication practices.
  • Provide technical assistance to the partners to develop SBCC implementation plan, execute them effectively and monitor them in Kathmandu Valley.
  • Closely work with Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL)  team to ensure timely monitoring and evaluating the impact of SBCC interventions. This includes designing data collection tools, analyzing data, and using findings to inform adjustments and improvements in communication strategies.
  • Adapt or design, develop, implement, and monitor feedback tool, analyze and share findings of the feedback tool, support to prepare and implement improvement plan in close collaboration with MEL team.
  • Collaborate with other project stakeholders, including government agencies, community organizations, and private sector actors to ensure coordination and synergy in SBCC intervention implementation. 
  • Support in advocacy efforts to promote SBCC as a critical component of development projects. This includes building networks, participating in conferences and workshops, and sharing knowledge and best practices with the wider SBCC community and related stakeholders.
  • Ensure quality and ethical standards of SBCC interventions. This involves adhering to ethical guidelines, applying rigorous research methodologies, and staying updated on emerging trends and innovations in the field.
  • Document the SBCC process, outcomes, and lessons learned throughout the project. This includes preparing reports, case studies, and communication materials for dissemination and knowledge sharing.
  • Keeping abreast of advancements in SBCC theory, research, and practice through continuous learning and staying connected with the broader SBCC community.
  • Ensure compliance of branding and marking in all SBCC interventions and communications of the project. 
  • Conduct any other tasks as delegated by the supervisor, FHI 360 Documentation and Communication Manager, DCoP, and FHI 360 Nepal office Country Director.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Communication or other relevant subjects with 3- 5 years of relevant work experience or bachelor’s degree with five to seven years of experience in above mentioned field.
  • Work experience and knowledge in designing, planning, implementing, and monitoring SBCC and digital solutions.
  • Ability to work well with others and to develop and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Experience in working effectively across various teams within the project and organization and building and sustaining positive working relationships with non-government organizations, private sectors, government, and other stakeholders.
  • Proactive in managing multiple tasks, managing, and working in the virtual work environment, and flexible and open for managing time for working with different teams in different time zones as needed. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, team building and management, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent oral and written English and Nepali including documentation skills.
