About SIWA Project:
SIWA is a 18th month project that seeks to sustain activism of individual activists, and women’s organisations through strengthening organisational development; leverage feminist agendas, and build a sustainable model of women led social enterprise.
In 2019, LOOM launched SIWA programme, a feminist support and solidarity for women led Community Based Organisations (CBOs) and their groups to sustain their activism by generating ideas for an alternative financial sustainability. Other forms of alternative model of funding is Philanthropy, which is a major form of seeking funds for women’s activism that has been adopted around the world, supporting women’s work by potential donors, among others. Women led Community based organisations have reiterated that they cannot depend on such funds to support their activism on a longer basis and there is a crucial need to seek alternative formats.
Our 18 months feminist collaboration jumpstarts by identifying partner organisations working on advocacy on women’s rights, and entrepreneurship. Once the partners are selected, they go through a rigorous process of setting organisational strategies, building capacities on sexuality and women’s rights, plotting ideas and resource generation on business development projects, generating support and solidarity from their groups, and networking with possible investors to sustain the organisation. The collaboration ends with an adequately funded entrepreneurship project, and a robust feminist organisational strategy.
