Sahayata Samajik Sanstha (SSS), a Non - governmental organization registered under the district administration office Nuwakot, and affiliated to Social Welfare Council (SWC), Nepal has been working in various sectors of Nuwakot and Rasuwa District since 2005.

Sahayata Samajik Sanstha (SSS) was established with a vision of perfect society in which poor and under privileged group people fulfill their basic needs and live in dignity. With that vision we have been working in various developmental and informational sectors, namely in livelihood, shelter, water supply, sanitation and hygiene, women's trafficking, and HIV and aids. SSS in partnership with Oxfam is implementing the Earthquake Recovery and Reconstruction Project in different VDCs of Nuwakot.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering registered in Engineering Council with at least 2 years experience in housing, shelter, and earthquake resistant technology is highly required
  • Most importantly, practical experience in earthquake resistant building construction technology.
  • Diplomacy, tact and administrative skills in order to work with people and the post holder should also be at ease in working with local people
  • The ability to present concise reports, sometimes at short notice, reflecting the problems and possible solutions for particular situations
  • Willingness to travel very remote areas and Good command on team mobilization and facilitation skills
  • Well developed interpersonal and team skills and proven ability to be flexible in demanding situations
  • Good written and spoken English and Nepali is essential


Job Description

Duration: March 2018 with possibility of extension

Job Purpose: To ensure the quality delivery of Shelter/Housing related activities in earthquake affected area of Nuwa.kot. The major focus is to be given to lead the shelter/housing program to carry out 50 days on the job (OJT) training, support to construct earthquake resistant buildings, provide short term mason training and aware local people on earthquake resistant construction technology. 

  • To work closely with field staff and local authority to select participants for on the job training (OJT), short term Mason training, house owners and other reconstruction activities
  • To support consulting agency to conduct 50 days On-the-Job Training (OJT) to Mason in the district, work closely with the consultant to identify suitable training venue and arranging construction materials
  • To manage and support shelter assistant and field staffs to implement planned activities and provide necessary technical inputs
  • To support Mobile Technical Assistance Team to organize community sessions, house to house visit and help desk to provide technical assistance on earthquake resistant construction practice
  • To conduct a regular field visit to ensure all the shelter activities are implemented with quality and transparent manner within budget allocation and time frame
  • To carry out design and estimate of the sample earthquake resistant building as per needed.
  • To coordinator district as well as local authority to implement shelter/housing activities
  • To work closely with WASH, EFSVL, Gender, DRR, MEAL and other programs throughout all phases of the project cycle
  • To ensure gender equality and social inclusion, as well as protection issues, are taken into consideration when implementing all the activities
  • To prepare and submit field visit report, monthly report, event report, and case studies
  • Other assignment provided by Program Coordinator and Executive Director
