Role Purpose
The Senior Project Coordinator - Livelihood is responsible for providing technical assistance to regional & district based technical staff & partners for their capacity building to manage programs/projects thereby achieving the excellence of the unit in line with quality framework and Country Strategy Plan (CSP). S/he will provide leadership in innovative program development and ensuring delivery of high-quality results and be responsible for overall planning, implementation and monitoring of Save the Children's livelihood initiatives. The position holder will also play key role in increasing visibility of Save the Children's work and influencing policies, plans and programs of decision makers both at national and at the donor’s communities.
Term and Location: Fixed term position till December 2018 based in Kathmandu with significant amount of time investing in field visits for technical backstopping
Required Qualification: At least Bachelor's degree (Masters preferred) or equivalent in livelihood related fields (Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, Business Development, Vocational Skills, Micro-Credit, Community Development etc.) or related Social Sciences (such as Economics, Rural Development, Development Studies etc.) minimum 5 years (3 years for Masters) of working experience in similar fields
Key Areas of Accountability
Program design and implementation
- Prepare annual and periodic plans of Livelihood in line with livelihood Strategic Plan and Annual Plans.
- Provide technical support to Livelihoods project (CLSP, LNP, Sponsorship & SCK Integrated Project) team to implement and management of the project.
- Keep organization informed of most recent situation and trends regarding livelihood of people in program districts, food security, avenues that bring economically gainful opportunities for youth.
- Design evidence based programs that contribute to the Country Strategic Plan, responds to on the ground needs assessments, stakeholders’ inputs, recommendations from monitoring & evaluation (M&E) results, national and international studies.
- Ensure timely implementation of livelihood programs, as per endorsed country strategic and annual plans
- Ensure inclusion of program modification systems and clear phase in /phase out plans and scale up strategies in programs.
- Support Detailed Implementation Planning (DIP) of programs/projects at implementation levels
- Support quality program implementation ensuring adequate technical assistance, conduct of regular reviews for program progress and implementation of recommendations
- Promote innovation within SC program department by actively channelizing creative, novel ideas, knowledge and energy to address problems affecting children and strive for opportunities within the organization or outside of it too, to generate funds for innovative projects related to livelihood components
- With support from MEAL team, ensure the development of monitoring and evaluation plans for all relevant programs /projects implemented.
- Take part in periodic reviews of Livelihood projects , its program and partners organizations
- Facilitate Technical Training in the field, prepare training materials and ensure quality of the training.
Support excellence in unit’s performance
- Extend support in assessing capacities of team members, including regional thematic team members, NGOs partners and facilitate their access to appropriate development initiatives, in close coordination with Human Resource Department.
- Support learning culture through various approaches, including organization of thematic program learning group meetings which result in specific outcomes and skill based learning
Resource Mobilization
- Keep close tracking and monitoring of budget and take corrective measures timely as required.
- Take support role in preparing project documents for funds solicitation. Generate evidences from the field, documentation and share learning among stakeholders and project team.
- Be part of quality proposal development team and take role in development of the proposal, based on directions provided by the Country Strategic Plan.
Support Advocacy Initiatives
- Support in developing and updating organizational stand on livelihood and proactively champion critical advocacy issues in relevant forums.
- With support from the Communication, Information and Advocacy Department, package program/evaluation results for dissemination.
- Strategically enhance visibility of SC’s work influencing regional level actors and stakeholders.
Representation and Networking
- Represent SC to relevant government agencies and donors, ensuring SC’s stand/voice is heard
- Maintain regular communication with likeminded organizations and working groups/networks.
- Bring relevant learning and new program ideas from external sources into the SC programs.
- Be part of relevant networks, coalitions at regional level.
Occasional Significant Duties
- Take initiatives integration of activities, promoting a learning culture, coordination and collaboration among project and staffs working in other themes.
- The post holder should fulfill the task as required by the organization as per the staff capacity.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Sound knowledge and experience in program development and implementation including budgeting, monitoring, review and reporting
- Sound strategic thinking and planning skills including ability to think creatively and be innovative, set priorities, manage work plans and evaluate progress
- Proficiency in writing technical and programmatic reports that document program directions and results
- Ability to work in remote, complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform
- Interpersonal, communication, coordination, negotiation, representation, facilitation and problem solving skills
- Excellent written and spoken Nepali and English and sound computer skills
