Job Description

Department: Ethics & Compliance    
Reporting to: Solid Line – Head of Compliance - Nepal
Function: Regulatory Compliance

Context & Role:

Reporting to the Head of Ethics and Compliance, this position will be responsible for supporting the Compliance oversight activities designed to help provide the Business reasonable assurance of its compliance with applicable laws, regulations & Company requirements. The position will support the Company’s Compliance Risk Management Program by primarily conducting monitoring/testing of the Business control environment, tracking the progress of issues & action plans and appropriately documenting and reporting results of the oversight activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement a compliance program for ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory requirements including regulatory filings.
  • Partner with Control functions and Legal to identify regulatory risks and assist the Business in preparing mitigation plans including providing training on the requirements.
  • Enter new and changes to Laws, Regulations and Standards into the Governance Risk & Compliance (GRC) system within the required timeline.
  • Perform monitoring & testing of controls.  Appropriately document results, issues and action plans (as applicable) in GRC.
  • Participate in task force for planning changes to policies and procedures based on upcoming laws or regulations. Review existing company policies and procedures to ensure that local regulations are adequately incorporated and ensure that the Business has trained end users on the policy/procedures.
  • Review regulatory actions in the industry, Internal Audit results, and partner with the Business to strengthen control environment.
  • Perform compliance review of proposed new/changes to products, ensuring they are designed in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and MetLife standards.
  • Review new/changes to sales/marketing materials, ensuring compliance with laws, regulations and company policies.
  • Support initiatives to ensure that customers are treated fairly and complaints are handled in line with regulations/company requirements.
  • Conduct Compliance inspections of Sales Offices.
  • Review monitoring reports prepared by various functions and advise improvements in line with regulatory requirements/observations, and audit/compliance findings.
  • Assist in preparation of Compliance reports.
  • Provide support in conducting Sales Practice related investigations.

Desired qualifications and experience:

Experience:

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in financial service industry. Exposure in core Finance, Audits, Compliance is desirable.
  • Understanding of the local regulations.
  • Exposure and understanding of Information Technology in Insurance is desirable.
  • Experience conducting Inspections, Investigations is preferred.  

Qualification:

  • Candidates should possess MBA/MBS degree with Risk Management from premier institute ( thesis completed)
  • Candidates passing part of Chartered Accountancy examinations are encouraged to apply.
  • Education qualification may be relaxed to BBS/BBA for the Member of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
  • Any other professional qualification in Insurance domain is desirable
