Roles and responsibilities of this job

The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing all accounting functions of the company, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with statutory regulations, effective cash management, and timely tax and VAT filings. The role requires hands-on involvement in day-to-day accounting operations, supporting management with financial analysis, maintaining strong internal controls, and ensuring the integrity of financial records within a sales and distribution environment.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Reporting

Maintain complete and accurate accounting records in accordance with accounting standards and company policies.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
Oversee general ledger activities and ensure timely month-end and year-end closing.
Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and ledger balances.
Monitor and analyze financial performance, identifying variances and areas for improvement.
Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.

Accounts Receivable & Accounts Payable

Monitor customer receivables and ensure timely collection of outstanding balances.
Review and approve supplier payments and vendor reconciliations.
Ensure accurate recording of sales, discounts, rebates, and distribution-related transactions.
Maintain proper aging reports and follow up on overdue accounts.

VAT & Tax Compliance

Prepare and submit monthly VAT returns accurately and within statutory deadlines.
Ensure compliance with all tax regulations, including withholding taxes and other applicable taxes.
Maintain proper VAT documentation and supporting schedules.
Coordinate with auditors, tax consultants, and regulatory authorities during audits and assessments.
Keep updated with changes in tax legislation and regulatory requirements.

Cash Management & Treasury

Manage daily cash flow and liquidity requirements.
Monitor bank balances and optimize cash utilization.
Prepare cash flow forecasts and treasury reports.
Ensure timely processing of payments, collections, and bank transactions.
Conduct regular bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies promptly.
Implement effective cash control procedures to safeguard company assets.

Inventory & Distribution Accounting

Monitor inventory valuation and stock movement records.
Reconcile inventory balances with warehouse and distribution records.
Ensure proper accounting of inventory adjustments, write-offs, and stock transfers.
Support periodic stock counts and inventory audits.
Analyze inventory-related costs and variances.

Internal Controls & Audit

Establish and maintain strong internal financial controls.
Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
Prepare audit schedules and support internal and external audit processes.
Identify financial risks and recommend corrective actions.

Team Coordination

Supervise and guide junior accounting staff where applicable.
Review work performed by accounting personnel for accuracy and completeness.
Assist in developing efficient accounting processes and systems.

Job Specification

Required qualifications for this job

Required Education Level:Under Graduate (Bachelor)

Required Experience:More than 5 years

Other Specification

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Professional qualification (CA Semi-Qualified) preferred.
Minimum 5–8 years of accounting experience.
At least 2–3 years in a senior accounting role.
Experience in Sales & Distribution, FMCG, Trading, or Retail industries preferred.
Proven experience in VAT filing, tax compliance, cash management, and financial reporting.

Technical Skills

Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
Expertise in VAT regulations and statutory compliance.
Experience with ERP and accounting software.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Strong understanding of inventory accounting and distribution operations.
