Population Media Nepal (PMN) is a non-profit organization established in January 2018 in Nepal. PMN uses entertainment-education and mass media to promote social and cultural change by addressing the interconnected issues of the full rights of women and girls, population, and the environment.

The unique Social and Behavior Change Methodology which has been rigorously and repeatedly tested and proven in a dozen other countries by Population Media Center is applied to bring about measurable changes in knowledge, attitudes, and practices. It has produced Mai Sari Sunakhari (‘Orchid Like Me’), a 204-episode Nepali radio serial drama and Hilkor (‘Ripples in the Water’), a 104-episode Maithili radio serial drama that featured issues of child marriage, family planning, gender-based violence (GBV), maternal and child health, nutrition, migration, and reproductive health. PMN has been working with young adolescents of Province 2 on community based theater and campaigns to motivate positive behaviors and normative change in deep rooted social issues.

Background:

The Radio serial drama (RSD), Rope Guna Fal (RFG) Project is being implemented to address the themes of child marriage and positive parenting along with adolescent pregnancy in partnership with UNICEF, Population Media Centre, and Antenna Foundation Nepal. 

This project is being specifically targeted in Sudhur-paschim, Karnali, and Lumbini provinces as well as in the other provinces of Nepal. RGF has been broadcasting through more than 90 radio stations from 20th of September 2021. The radio serial drama considers multiple social and health issues such as positive parenting (i.e. early learning and stimulation, nutrients, health, care and nurture, safety & protection) gender based violence, sexual reproductive health, family planning, and early child marriage with the goal of improving the lives of different divisions of the population (i.e. men, women, boys, girls, youth). 

The Project intends to conduct random digit dial telephone surveys to know the progress of drama series throughout the implementation phase. The project will also use in-depth interviews to get a deeper understanding of how the audience perceives. 

Objective of the study

The overall objective of the study is to estimate listenership/audience size and provide qualitative listener feedback regarding the on-going RSD “Rope Guna Fal” to the project creative team. 

Specific objectives include the following:

  • To estimate the reach of the target audience or listenership
  • To provide quantitative and qualitative feedback to the creative team with respect to comprehension of the messages and popularity of the on-going RSD for further evidence-based decision making
  • To explore the resonance of drama messages among the listeners  

Call for Volunteers

Population Media Nepal is going to conduct total five round of telephone surveys. Thus, required volunteers/enumerators to conduct telephone survey and in-depth interview as per assigned assignment. Enumerators are required to provide one week time to complete the assignment. 

Training Delivery Methodology:

Three days training will be delivered to the volunteers / enumerators on the understanding of the assignment, objectives of the study, tools and mobile application. Training will include lectures, presentation, question and answer. 

Terms of reference:

  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative survey through telephone
  • Ensure the recording and notes are clear and concise
  • Transcribe the audio recording 
  • Experience with conducting interviews is desirable
  • Experience using mobile / tablet based data collection is desirable.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum higher secondary graduate or Bachelor graduates are highly preferred
