Oxford University Clinical Research Unit-Nepal (OUCRU-NP), is a not for profit organization (NPO) with its head office located in Lalitpur, Bagmati Province, Nepal. The mission of OUCRU-NP is to build a strong mass of young Nepalese clinicians and scientists who can help build the scientific and clinical future of Nepal. The main research focus of OUCRU-NP has been on the common infectious diseases within Nepal including but not limited to: enteric fever (Typhoid and Paratyphoid); scrub and murine typhus as well as other causes of febrile illness; antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and infections of the central nervous system and Hepatitis E. OUCRU-NP plans to expand its research work to emerging pathogens with a flexibility to be able to address the public health priorities in Nepal in the future.

Job Description

Grade: Level 5
Reports to: Trial manager; principal investigator
Contract: 100%, 1 year with the possibility of an extension

Purpose of the job position:

The position is responsible for providing clinical and administrative nursing support for research trials, studies, and projects. It also involves recruiting and screening potential participants. Performs patient/research subject evaluations, administers medications and research instruments and collects data. RN is also responsible for patient education related to study.

Responsibilities of the post holder

  • Communication: Communicate with patients/study participants about the research studies, about the treatment, medicines, follow up and disease process. Take informed consent when necessary.
  • Data Collection: Collect data from patients/study participants/other sources in prespecified forms. Patients may be in the wards or outpatient departments.
  • Data Entry: Carry out data entry into computerized study databases, manage data and files, and verify data.
  • Sample Collection: Collect samples from patients and label accordingly in required format while storing them. Sample e.g.: blood or other body fluids
  • Documentation: Maintain essential study documents. eg forms, protocols, literature. Keep detail information of patient who appear in study clinic. Maintain nurses’ handover book of your shift.
  • Assistance in study clinic: Assist the doctors who work in the study clinics in patient care and management. Explain and provide study drug to trail enrolled patient with detail information. Make your effort to run study clinic smoothly.
  • Laboratory Assistance: Be willing and interested to participate/assist in work in the laboratory doing various procedures like microbial cultures, staining, DNA extraction, etc.
  • General Skills: Be curious to learn new information and skills, read and study, be disciplined to the goals of the organization and be a good member of the team.
  • Stock and supplies: Make sure necessary equipment are available in study clinic. Have to check, restore and maintain equipment in good condition.

Qualifications:

  • At least a bachelor’s degree in nursing

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of research process and evidence-based nursing
  • Knowledge of national and local leave health policies
  • Good computer skills and knowledge of electronic health record

Skills:

  • Should be licensed from Medial Council
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good analytical and strategic thinking skills
  • Attention to details
  • Should have excellent computer skills, especially in MS Word and Excel, internet and email.

Other

  • Carry out any duties as reasonably required by the Unit in these areas
