National Association of People Living with HIV in Nepal (NAP+N) is a national network of People Living with HIV (PLHIV) was established in 2003 that works at the national level and local community-based organizations and communities with a mission to strengthen the voice of PLHIV through the formation and strengthening of networks and association of PLHIV to respond to the challenges of HIV and AIDS in Nepal. NAP+N focuses on building the capacity of local PLHIV groups to respond appropriately to the needs of PLHIV and its related key populations in areas of advocacy, prevention, care, and support, counseling, raising community awareness, providing information and education, and improving access to the healthcare and legal services. 

NAP+N is seeking applications from qualified, smart, and result-oriented Nepali citizens for the following positions to support HIV and TB programs focusing on HIV case finding among other vulnerable populations (Migrant and their spouse) in the community.

Role Purpose: 

The Research Manager is responsible to take lead and manage the scope and activities of the study under KPRA. The Research Manager is one of the members of the Program Management Unit of NAP+N. The Research Manager will fully be responsible to oversee the management of overall study related activities in timely, effective and efficient manner in close coordination with KPRA team under NAP+N. The Research Manager will work closely with Project Management Unit, Save the Children KPRA team, partner organizations for implementing the KPRA activities at implementing sites, and like-minded stakeholders to implement and monitor the work plan. The Research Manager will provide technical inputs and support on day to day study operation, data analysis and interpretation, report writing, study dissemination and monitoring of the study. The position will also contribute to the development and implementation of organizational strategies, policies and plan. 

Roles and Responsibilities: 

  • Takes lead to design and management of the research activities
  • Provides technical support for implementing a study on community-led HIV and Hep C screening, linkages for treatment among PWID in Nepal
  • Coordinates research activities with all stakeholders (National Health Research Council, National Centre for AIDS and STD Control, National Public Health Laboratory, Health Directorate of the concerned Province and like-minded I/NGOs)
  • Leads the development of the study’s tools, guides, and instruments and facilitates research field visit and ensure the quality as per the standards
  • Facilitates to submit the study related protocol to the local institutional review board (IRB), defend protocol, and follow-up as needed
  • Takes lead to develop data entry tool, analyze data closely working with the study team and PMU 
  • Provides technical support to study team for recording, reporting and documentation
  • Provide technical supports for quality assurance and share the findings with the PMU and Save the Children International KPRA focal person for the organization
  • Develops a report on research and survey findings and work with project team to disseminate and use findings in the design of evidence-based advocacy interventions
  • Facilitates the use of research results for program improvement, scale up of best practices, and policy change for strengthened community-led approaches for HIV and AIDS program among key populations
  • Puts effort to write abstract, manuscript and public resource outcomes
  • Contributes to develop capacity building plan and facilitate training and orientation for study team and local partner organizations 
  • Contributes to develop and publish IEC materials and conceptualize innovative approaches such as use of social media, monitoring tools, quality assurance and provides advice to PMU for the implementation
  • Prepares and submit the technical reports, monitoring reports, programmatic reports, and other reports in time
  • Manages a detailed work plan of the study activities under the project
  • Collaborates with local partners and monitor the compliances with study ethical provisions and consenting processes
  • Supervises the study activities and ensure the proper implementation with standards 
  • Attends external events as required, including as a member of the team supporting the organization’s presence and profile
  • Undertakes other duties which may be appropriate within the areas of responsibility of the post, as and when assigned by PMU

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master’s in Public Health, or Biostatistics, or Population studies/Demography or Research related field 
  • 5 years’ professional experience on research related activities in the areas of public health programs and experience on HIV and AIDS related research works will be an asset
  • Technical expertise in report writing skills, with proven ability to produce research protocols and report, technical briefs, publications, articles, abstracts and present findings at national and local level
  • In-depth knowledge and skills on quantitative and qualitative researches implementation
  • Proficiency in STATA or other statistical and data management software such as SAS and SPSS
  • Good command in English and communication skills 
  • Ability to work independently and to collaborate with senior staff, colleagues, donors, partner organizations, stakeholders, local institutions, and others at all levels
  • Willingness to travel in project districts inside country
  • Ability to work with key populations specially with people living with HIV
