Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities 

Research Associate (RA) is the position to contribute to the tobacco control program being executed in NDRI in collaboration with Kivu International in support of Cancer Research UK. The incumbent will serve as the Economist to accomplish Tobacco Control Program at NDRI. 

The specific tasks to be performed are as follows:

  • Review the NDRI’s work on the tobacco issue and identify gaps in research and advocacy done so far
  • Engage in research work on tobacco taxes in the context of Nepal as well as review the international best practices in tobacco taxation policy and produce various outputs such as policy briefs and reports as required
  • Conduct the corresponding necessary research on tobacco tax in the instruction of the Program Manager
  • Review the status of tobacco economics in Nepal and other South Asian countries
  • Facilitate the team for the data/information analysis and prepare knowledge products: policy brief, report, and other IEC materials  
  • Facilitate consultative meetings with key stakeholders working in tobacco for identifying research gap and to get feedback on the knowledge products prepared so far
  • Review of the database on the state-of-the-art information on practices of database management, develop in a presentable format and prepare reports in various formats including graphs, charts, matrix, etc. as required
  • Support program manager (TCP) for institutionalizing the research activities on tobacco in NDRI and formulate the further way forward
Terms of engagement 

  • Duration: Project tenure (15 February 2021 to 31 March 2021) with high possibilities of extension
