The Himalayan Innovative Society (THIS), established in 2003, is a non-governmental organization working closely with the Nepal Government in the family reintegration of children rescued from vulnerable child care institutions in Nepal. We work in communities to prevent family-child separation through community awareness informing the psychological harms of child institutionalization, educating parents and strengthening gatekeeping system in Nepal.

We have supported over 1000 children directly and indirectly through our various projects since 2003.

We have a transitional care center in Kathmandu, where children rescued by Nepal Government from vulnerable child care institutions are rehabilitated for a temporary period, healed, and prepared for family reunification.

Objective: The main objective of this position is to reunite permanently separated families. The Reintegration Officer is responsible to work on developing and implementing efficient strategies towards the goal of reintegrating the trafficked and displaced children within their communities, with their families when circumstance permits it.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Research families of identified children concerned district in Nepal.
  • Hire, manage, and supervise the staff needed and ensuring its security while in the field.
  • Conduct interviews of identified families, children and concerned actors.
  • Assessment of village situation including but not limited to school, health posts, transportation, political situation and feeding.
  • Assessment of families situation but not incomes, expenditure, safety, health, security, resources, etc.
  • Provide recommendations toward reintegration for each concerned child.
  • Reunify children with their families of origin, or when not possible reintegrate children within their communities through kinship, foster family or any other suitable alternative options.
  • Monitor reunited children to ensure his/her safety and sustainable long term care, and adjustment within his/her community.
  • Manage all the family support provided to those families and develop appropriate procedures to provide family support in need.
  • Prepare provisional budget and action plans as per operational procedures.
  • Participate in all required meetings and trainings.
  • Prepare monthly report summarizing all the activity.
  • Document with photographs on all families, children and community in THIS-NGN's database
  • Maintain and update on the computer as required all information on children's profile, family visits and assessment completed
  • Ensuring that the legal requirements to reunify concerned children are met.
  • Liaise with appropriate Government official, VDC, DDC, CDO, SWC, CCWB, DCWB, Women Development Office, Child clubs Child Networks etc.
  • Monitor the sustainability of all the activities and the security of each child involved in the project.

Educational Description:

  • +2 in Humanities (Bachelors in social work preferred). Good communication skill (both written and spoken) in English & Nepali.

Job Specification:

  • Good communication skill with basic computer Knowledge.
  • Flexibility, creativity, highly motivated, honesty and patience
  • Ability to formulate plans, implement the project and strong reporting capability.
  • Ability to work under pressure, adapt in changing or challenging environment and capable to involve physically him/her self in field job

The post holder will be required to work more than 70% his/her working hours in fields which could be mostly outside Kathmandu valley. Priority will be given to Ethnic minority, Dalit and female interested candidates who understand child psychology and is willing to work in child sector as well as is ready to travel in remote areas of Nepal for frequent field visits.
