Reports To: Training and Capacity Building Coordinator

Based: Kathmandu with frequent travel to field locations

Duration: 8 months (Possible Extension subject to funding)

Job purpose

Reporting to the Training and Capacity Building Coordinator, the Radio Mentor will be the prime person and fully responsible for all training and mentoring initiatives for local radio partners to produce health behaviour change content (PSAs and digital campaigns). S/he will work collaboratively with BBC Media Action’s Research and Learning team on the design and roll-out of a Training Needs Assessment to ensure that all training is relevant and clearly aligned to learning needs and preferred learning styles.

Main Duties

  • Work together with the Coordinator in conducting the Training Needs Assessment of the local stations to identify learning and training priorities
  • Design and provide intensive training and mentoring on the production of effective behaviour change communication content for radio producers at selected local stations around the country
  • Develop training/mentoring plans and ensure coordination with other BBC Media Action teams
  • Provide training and mentoring to local producers and scriptwriters and actors on how they can create engaging, audience-led programmes
  • Provide regular reports to the supervisor on the progress of training/mentoring and production activities
  • Other project activities as assigned by the supervisor

Essential skills and experience

  • Minimum University Degree in the relevant field, preferably in Journalism and Mass Communication
  • Radio production skills especially in radio drama and PSAs including producing editorial content and technical recording and post-production skills
  • Demonstrable creative ability
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in training and mentoring teams to produce engaging radio content for local audiences
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the design of training programmes and a well-developed understanding of different learning styles
  • Ability to work on own initiative and organise time effectively within a range of often conflicting deadlines
  • The ability to forge strong working relations quickly and gain the trust of project stakeholders, including partners
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent written and spoken Nepali and English
  • Desirable skills and experience 
  • Experience using media for developmental goals
