Roles and responsibilities of this job

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant – Public Practice with prior experience working in an Australian public practice accounting firm. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on exposure to accounting compliance, client data processing, and tax-related work who is looking to grow their career in a professional accounting environment. The successful candidate will support senior accountants by preparing financial reports, processing client data, and ensuring compliance with Australian accounting and taxation requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Statement Preparation

Assist in the preparation of financial statements for individuals, sole traders, partnerships, trusts, and companies
Ensure accuracy and compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and ATO requirements

BAS & IAS Preparation

Prepare and lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS)
Review GST calculations and ensure correct reporting

Client Data Processing

Process and reconcile client financial data using accounting software such as Xero, MYOB, and QuickBooks
Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records
Use internal tax and practice management software to support compliance work

Superannuation & Superfund Accounting

Assist with superfund accounting, including reconciliations and reporting
Support compliance-related tasks for SMSFs (if applicable)

Administrative & Team Support

Assist senior accountants with day-to-day public practice tasks
Organize client files, maintain documentation, and meet reporting deadlines

Job Specification

Required qualifications for this job

Required Education Level:Under Graduate (Bachelor)

Required Experience:More than 1 year

Other Specification

1–2 years of experience in an Australian public practice accounting firm (essential)
Practical experience with Xero, MYOB, and/or QuickBooks
Exposure to BAS, IAS, and financial statement preparation
Understanding of Australian taxation and accounting compliance
Close attention to detail and strong organizational skills
