Job Description


Job purpose : To work closely with PHP Officer and team to enable CARDSN to respond quickly to the Public Health Engineering requirements of Society. The work may involve, in an immediate emergency stage, the assessment of the situation and in later stages the implementation of public health measures required to alleviate the plight of the people.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To conduct various WASH related activities in working VDCs
  • To mobilize social mobilizers to achieve the thematic objectives.
  • To work collaboratively with PHP officer, VDC WASH committees, VDC secretaries and other stakeholders to make the working VDCs open defecation free
  • To constantly report the program activities to PHP officer and program coordinator
  • To constantly monitor the WASH related activities and issues and report the same to the PHP officer and program coordinator
  • To sketch detail schedules of the thematic programs and submit to PHP officer
  • To support Public Health Engineering (PHE) team of CARDSN to select and construct various WASH related structures
  • To conduct community sessions to motivate and change the behavior of the people
  •  Ensure WASH committees and volunteers are able to supervise, manage and monitor the WASH facilities and mobilize affected communities in taking action to improve high risk hygiene practices.
  •  Implement hygiene promotion interventions for specific target groups e.g. school children, women and men groups
  •  Carry out regular feedback to the volunteers, WASH committees and local authorities to ensure accountability and protection issues are taken action

Skills and Competence: 

  • Intermediate degree (preferably in public health) or related discipline with minimum two year working experience in the similar field. Experience could substitute for a formal qualification, but not vice versa
  • The post holder should have a good understanding of the public health needs of poor rural and urban communities and of appropriate ways of tackling them. The post holder must be aware of and sensitive to the needs of women in this context
  • Ability to present concise reports, sometimes at short notice, reflecting the problems and possible solutions for situations
  • Flexibility and ease in working with local people 
  • Diplomacy, tact and administrative skills in order to work with people at managerial level, and occasionally government levels
  • Assessment, analytical and planning skills
  • Effective member of team and role model; demonstrates creativity in seeking better ways to do things and shares with team, and promotes high standards
  • Capacity and desire to pass skills and information, confident communicator and willingness to work in collaboration with others and respectful to the community
  • Takes responsibility for own work and delegated project/processes (including some leadership)
  • Good written and spoken English is essential
