The organization was founded in 1990 by the Catholic Church to respond to the devastating floods and other natural disasters that occurred.

Caritas Nepal applies animation approach and sector-specific participatory approaches to empower the poor, marginalized, and disadvantaged class of people to reduce poverty, hunger, secure humanitarian assistance in the situation of man-made and natural emergency and therefore to realize social justice and peace.

With the vision of creating peaceful, equitable and just society, where there is solidarity among people and respect for human dignity, Caritas Nepal works on the sectors of social justice and community development, disaster risk management, sustainable livelihoods, migrants, refugee and anti-trafficking, emergency and recovery supports as well as advocacy on social concerns.

Caritas Nepal, a leading national NGO, invites applications from qualified Nepali citizens for Caritas Nepal Sub-Office, Damak. The contract will be for 6 months with possibility of further extension.

Location: Damak, Jhapa
Reports to: Regional Manager and DMD (Disaster Management Department) Manager

Requirements and Qualifications

  • At least Bachelor’s Degree in social science, Management, Science or relevant discipline 
  • At least 2 years of experience in community mobilization including DRR and humanitarian sector. 
  • Demonstrated good skills and experience in organizational and operational project work with extensive coordinating role with government line agencies.
  • Ability to work with multi-cultural team of volunteers, national and international staff.
  • Good understanding of capacity building in education sector.
  • Good knowledge of education policy, guidelines and directives of Ministry of Education Government of Nepal.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and reporting skills.
  • Fluency in written and spoken of English and Nepali is required.
  • Local residence will be given more preference.
  • Skill of computer application word, excel, power point etc. 
  • Ability and willingness to frequent field visit in the project area.
  • Experience in representation and interaction with donors, government officials.
  • International organizations and NGO representatives concerning education issues and initiatives.
  • Must be comfortable in being a pro-active member of the senior management team.
  • Must be a professional who seeks to identify and communicate potential problems and alternative options.
  • Must be able to function effectively in a complex work environment that is constantly and rapidly changing as a result of transitional phase.

Job Description

  • Ensure project activities are aligned with the project document and are being implemented by project staff efficiently.
  • Review proposed action and budget of the project if necessary, revise in coordination with the Programme Manager 
  • Liaise with community leaders and local government line ministries at ground level all matters related to the project assigned to you.
  • Actively participate in various forums and networks at the district and municipality level to discuss on the project progress, share and learn from others
  • Provide technical input to the design of various communication materials, tools and guidelines as required by the project
  • Coordinate with local authorities, private sectors associated with the project, media, I/NGOs and other stakeholders in order to manage the project effectively
  • Monitor the project performance as per agreed performance standards agreed by the team.
  • Conduct any other related duties assigned by direct supervisor, Project Manager or designated representative from time to time 
  • Develop periodic update reports and reports as per donor’s requirement or as when required by Program Manager.
