Americares, an international non-governmental organization registered in the US, has been working in Nepal immediately after Gorkha earthquake in field of health sector recovery, HSS, MHPSS and DRR.

Improving Maternal and Newborn Health (IMANh) is a project that Americares is going to implement in 2 rural municipalities (Khandadevi & Gokulganga) of Ramechhap district in partnership of local NGO-CHURDEP and in close collaboration with MoHP, DHO Ramechhap, local health facilities and rural-municipalities. Americares is seeking a competent, qualified and dynamic person for the position of Project Coordinator for its IMANh project in Ramechhap.

Job Description

DEPARTMENT:         Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Recovery 

LOCATION:                Kathmandu with frequent trips to Dhading, Sindhupalchowk and other earthquake-affected areas

REPORTS TO:           Nepal Country Director

Duties and Responsibilities

Program Design, Implementation and Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Work with AmeriCares HQ and the Country Director to design, develop, and implement recovery projects consistent with AmeriCares strategy, with a focus on health systems restoration and resilience, mental health and psychosocial services, and community health, including maternal and child health
  • Ensure that programs that AmeriCares directly implements or supports are consistent with international and national standards and best practices
  • Review proposals from implementing partners and provide input to project design
  • Ensure compliance with local and international regulatory issues in program development and implementation
  • Monitor projects as needed to ensure programs are being implemented within proposed budget and timeframes and that proposed objectives are being met
  • Provide technical assistance to local partners in public health, project design and management, monitoring and evaluation and/or other areas of expertise
  • Identify opportunities for AmeriCares to engage in long-term health programming to improve long-term health outcomes for people of Nepal

Coordination

  • Identify and vet potential local partners
  • Coordinate withAmeriCares’ partners, government counterparts, donors and other implementing partners to support recovery programs
  • Represent AmeriCares at national and district-level Health Cluster and other relevant coordination meetings

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform any other duties deemed necessary to meet the needs of the program

Requirements

  • At least five years’ experience working in public health and humanitarian relief programs
  • Expertise in one or more of the following: maternal and child health, chronic disease prevention and treatment, water, sanitation, and hygiene, health systems administration
  • Nepali citizen or expatriate with experience working in Nepal
  • Proficiency in English required; proficiency and Nepal and/or Hindi preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in public health or related subject preferred
