Job Description

The role of the Program Director will be to provide leadership and direction in Oda Foundation programming and growth, specifically as it relates to the empowerment of women and girls. The Program Director for Women’s Empowerment will be responsible for overseeing a collaborative, district-wide project between the Oda Foundation and a partner organization. This project is aimed at addressing the issue of chhaupadi in the district of Kalikot through increasing access to women’s health education, menstrual products, and economic opportunity. It will include an intensive travel schedule, a high quantity of community meetings, data collection and analyses, project reporting, and staff management.

The Program Director will maintain a critical role within the Oda Foundation staff and within the immediate community of Oda. Outside of overseeing the collaborative chhaupadi project, she will guide the Foundation’s overall women’s empowerment stance through directing policy and procedures for implementing women’s empowerment initiatives.  In order to do so, she will take part in strategic meetings with Oda Foundation staff, community leaders, and gaunpalika and district-level officials.

 

The candidate will have a strong voice and a team-oriented attitude. She will have a history of advocating on behalf of women and girls and will make use of her steadfast outlook on gender equality and women’s rights.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing a district-wide project aimed at tackling menstruation
  1. Communicating with our partner through regular progress reports
  2. Collecting and analyzing data
  3. Organizing and leading trainings and community meetings with male and female adults and students
  • Working with local stakeholders, Oda Foundation staff, and government officials to ensure girls and women in Kalikot have proper access to school, healthcare, and economic opportunity
  • Communicating effectively in Nepali with our local team
  • Communicating effectively in English with our US Director and American Fellows
  • Navigating key stakeholder relationships including: local community leaders, gaunpalika representatives, and district-level officers
  • Assisting in the formation of a women’s cooperative and assessing the potential effectiveness of establishing a women-lead micro-loan institution
