Position: Private Sector Development Advisor
Duty Station: Surkhet

Responsibilities :

Build and nurture strategic partnerships with rural enterprises, cooperatives, business service providers, business membership associations, micro financial institutions and others.
Collaborate with rural enterprises, producer organizations and cooperatives that empower women.
Undertake diagnostics to identify challenges and capacity development needs,
Support micro and meso enterprises in developing business growth strategies and action plans,
Advice on aggregation, value addition, pricing, marketing, distribution and positioning for regional and national markets,
Assist in meeting buyer requirements of product volume, quality and timeliness
Advise on standards and certifications and support in maintaining internal control systems, traceability and meeting requirements in coordination with buyers,
Facilitate in applying to and availing of municipal, provincial and federal governments’ assistance programs
Facilitate in building capacities on business, financial and digital literacy.
Facilitate in applying to and availing of enterprise loans and agri-insurance.
Facilitate SME participation in trade fairs, B2B matchmaking
Identify potential traders and buyers.
Build partnerships with financial institutions, including commercial banks, micro finance institutions and savings and credit cooperatives that invest in climate resilient rural enterprises; facilitate targeting of agri and women enterprise needs through financial product development and/or modification.
Engage with key stakeholders in the ecosystem to drive innovation, including integration of digital solutions to address supply chain challenges and drive business growth.
Actively gather evidence and support cooperatives and business membership organizations through dialogue, advocacy and training on climate resilience and growth- related matters.

Required qualification and experience:

Educational Qualification:

Master’s degree in business administration, marketing or related field. Equivalent qualifications will be considered.

Professional Experience:

At least 5 years of experience in the area of private sector development in the agriculture or related sector.
Demonstrated expertise in working with producer organizations and cooperatives with a specific focus on women’s economic empowerment and climate resilience.
Experience working with market systems development approach.
Thorough understanding of challenges of rural enterprises in Nepal.
Experience conducting Business Development training
Experience working on SME financing and agriculture insurance.
Experience with e-commerce and digital trade platforms is an advantage.
Experience working with internal control systems is an advantage.

Skills and competencies

Excellent analytical skills and solution orientation; proven track record in driving results and implementing solutions.
Strong networking and communication skills, capable of building and maintaining partnerships with private sector actors
Ability to advise producer organizations, cooperatives and facilitate business to business deals.
Excellent documentation and presentation skills.
Ability to work independently under pressure with minimal guidance and meet tight deadlines.
Open to constructive feedback.

Language Proficiency

Excellent command of Nepali and English languages (written and spoken)

GRAPE 2 drives sustainable economic development in Nepal by fostering entrepreneurship, strengthening climate resilience, and placing women and youth at the forefront of new growth opportunities. Implemented under the strategic guidance of the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperative and Poverty Alleviation (MoLCPA), the project is jointly financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union (EU).

The project focuses on five key areas:

1. Business Development: Supporting new and existing Micro, Small, and Medium- Sized enterprises (MSMEs) that contribute positively to climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, youth empowerment and gender equality.

2. Entrepreneurial Ecosystems: Developing climate-resilient and biodiversity-friendly value chains and markets through partnerships.

3. Local Economic Governance: Promoting gender-responsive and climate-resilient economic development through improved local governance.

4. Awareness Raising: Sensitizing actors in the entrepreneurial ecosystem to the role of women in economic development.

5. Scaling Innovation: Expanding successful practices, tools and technologies for gender-equitable and climate-resilient economic development.
