Job Description

REPORTS TO: Medical Coordinator (based in Kathmandu)
POSITION TYPE: Consultant
PROJECT LENGTH: January 1 – April 30, 2016 (4 Months)

POSITION SUMMARY
AmeriCares is seeking a physiotherapist-trainer to establish and build the capacity of staff working at IOM’s step-down care facility (SDCF) in Nepal. Under the guidance of the emergency response health team leader and the medical coordinator, the physiotherapist-trainer will assist in the establishment and operation of the SDCF, providing functional restoration and rehabilitation services to patients who sustained earthquake-related injuries and disabilities in Sindhupalchowk District. This position will be based in Chautara, Sindhupalchowk, Nepal.

The responsibilities of the physiotherapist-trainer include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist the facility manager in the overall operations of SDCF services;
  • Assist in the on-going improvement of treatment protocols in consultation with key project partners;
  • Provide training and mentorship to physiotherapists (on and off the job) and support the delivery of physiotherapy services in the SDCF and the district hospital;
  • Assist in the use of clinical and procedural tools to evaluate the effectiveness of the care process provided by the SDCF;
  • Support the district-level working group for disability and rehabilitation services in the district;
  • Participate in trainings with partners conducting community-based rehabilitation in the district;
  • Provide regular reports on the progress of the facility, including identification of gaps and suggested follow up actions to IOM headquarters and Injury and Rehabilitation Sub-Cluster members (where relevant) ;
  • Assist in the transfer of the facilities’ services including additional trainings of district hospital staff; and
  • Other duties as required by supervisors.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced degree in physiotherapy.
  • Proven experience in designing and delivering training and mentorship to physiotherapists and other health professionals, including on the job training.
  • Experience working in post-disaster or post-conflict settings.
  • Proven experience of working holistically and within a multidisciplinary team in the field of rehabilitation.
  • Experience working in rehabilitation care in Nepal is an advantage.
  • Fluent English language skills.
