The Himalayan Innovative Society (THIS), established in 2003, is a non-governmental organization working closely with the Nepal Government in the family reintegration of children rescued from vulnerable child care institutions in Nepal. We work in communities to prevent family-child separation through community awareness informing the psychological harms of child institutionalization, educating parents and strengthening gatekeeping system in Nepal.

We have supported over 1000 children directly and indirectly through our various projects since 2003.

We have a transitional care center in Kathmandu, where children rescued by Nepal Government from vulnerable child care institutions are rehabilitated for a temporary period, healed, and prepared for family reunification.

Job Description

The main purpose of this position is to assist THIS’ ED overseeing and implementing projects funded by partners. In coordination with Executive Director and Program Director, s/he works on developing and implementing efficient strategies towards the goal of sustainable development of the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring THIS' all partners’ funded projects remain legally compliant with all GoN laws and policies, as well as any requirements set by donors or other regulatory bodies 
  • Supporting senior THIS colleagues with any donor visits or meetings, or relations with any other external agencies, as required 
  • Ensuring the safety and best interests of the children are followed at all times and advising seniors on these issues if necessary
  • Acting as a technical advisor to senior THIS colleagues on all issues of the various projects funded by THIS’ different partners
  • Maintaining an awareness of risks which could affect ongoing THIS’ projects.  Sharing this awareness with the THIS Program Director and THIS Executive Director, and taking appropriate action to avoid these risks in consultation with the concern people
  • Researching and building network with organization that share common goal
  • In coordination with officers and manager, organize informative, educative events, exposure visits and mentoring sessions for the youths who are under scholarship projects
  • Assist Reintegration Manager when necessary   
  • Advise senior mangers on areas of improvement in relation to the organizational development
  • Liaise with government offices, NGOs, INGOs and local community when necessary 
  • Participating and/or organizing workshops, orientation programs, trainings on reintegration Process in-order to strengthen and replicate our reintegration approach within the civil society and GoN
  • Providing recommendations to seniors in specific situation when necessary
  • Participating in all required meetings
  • Reporting on activity  (Monthly-half yearly, Annually) 

Working Days and Hours: 
The post holder is required to work for 43 hours per week, 8.5 hours per day starting from 9 AM up to 5.30 PM including half hour lunch break on a regular basis.There are times when THIS works beyond the hours of a normal work day and may ask you to work overtime if necessary. Please refer to the Policies and Procedures Manual for further clarification.

Salary’ scale:D-1
Probationary period:3 months
Period of Service: Till end of December, 2015
Status: THIS Employed staff – Funded by Go Camping (100%)
