Job Description:

IDS Media is hiring a News Reporter for its expanding digital platforms. The successful candidate will be a self-starter comfortable hitting the streets to cover breaking news and scouring social media for potential stories. Ideal candidate will be someone who not only stays on top of current affairs, political developments in the country but also enjoys telling human interest stories about life in Nepal. Contacts in government departments and security agencies would be an advantage.  


Responsibilities:

  • Follow news events and other media sources to keep up with all the local and global happening
  • Conduct and schedule interviews
  • Verify information provided by interviewees 
  • Stick to deadlines as timeliness is extremely important
  • Assist news management with content gathering
  • Assist content producers, photographers, digital editors, and reporters with story gathering for all IDS Media platforms.
  • Flag breaking news and feature stories, and pitch story ideas.
  • Other duties as required.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or related field

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Familiar with local newsgathering technology and terminology. 
  • Must understand and be able to observe journalistic standards.
  • Plan, edit, and write stories and articles at a professional level adhering to the house style for publication.
  • Must be organized and able to multi-task. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and research skills.
  • As circumstances dictate, you may also be asked to take still photographs, shoot video, or shoot and produce on-camera video segments about your reporting.
  • Ready to work at weekends and/or odd hours, especially in the case of breaking news, late-night news conferences, and similar events.
