Americares, an international non-governmental organization registered in the US, has been working in Nepal immediately after Gorkha earthquake in field of health sector recovery, HSS, MHPSS and DRR.

Improving Maternal and Newborn Health (IMANh) is a project that Americares is going to implement in 2 rural municipalities (Khandadevi & Gokulganga) of Ramechhap district in partnership of local NGO-CHURDEP and in close collaboration with MoHP, DHO Ramechhap, local health facilities and rural-municipalities. Americares is seeking a competent, qualified and dynamic person for the position of Project Coordinator for its IMANh project in Ramechhap.

Job Description

DEPARTMENT:    Global Programs– Emergency Preparedness, Response and Recovery

REPORTS TO:    VP, Emergency Response & Recovery

Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership/Management

  • Provide leadership, promote professionalism and teamwork, build working relationships, and encourage staff members to work effectively as representatives of AmeriCares
  • In coordination with AmeriCares Human Resources, identify human resource needs and recruit staff to meet those needs
  • Develop and implement policies for field office and warehouse operation, ensuring that policies are in line with local regulations and link to organizational policies and procedures
  • Update, implement and adhere to security policies addressing local conditions
  • Conduct discussions to identify and determine approaches to address staff’s stress levels and sense of security

Program Design, Implementation and Monitoring& Evaluation

  • Work with AmeriCares HQ to design, develop, and implement recovery projects consistent with AmeriCares strategy, with a focus on health systems restoration and resilience, mental health and psychosocial services, and community health
  • Identify and vet potential local partners
  • Review proposals from implementing partners and provide input to project design
  • Ensure compliance with local and international regulatory issues in program development and implementation
  • Monitor projects as needed to ensure programs are being implemented within proposed budget and timeframes and that proposed objectives are being met
  • Coordinate with existing partners to identify needs for medicines, medical supplies, and other relief supplies
  • Work with AmeriCares HQ to build and offer shipments of medicine and medical supplies to partners
  • Monitor distribution of supplies and obtain documentation of proper distribution
  • Identify opportunities for AmeriCares to obtain additional funding and to implement additional health programming

Communications & Reporting

  • Maintain regular communication with AmeriCares headquarters, providing timely situation reports, and updates on activities, accomplishments and challenges to inform AmeriCares program planning and decision making
  • Prepareprogram reports and other reporting to AmeriCares external constituents
  • Participate in responsible media coverage of events and programs related to AmeriCares efforts in coordination with AC Communications team at HQ

Requirements

  • Seven years’ experience in one or more of the following required: disaster response and recovery, humanitarian assistance, program management, orpublic health 
  • Experience leading a team in a disaster response and recovery or humanitarian assistance context required
  • Experience in public health preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Proficiency in English required; proficiency in Nepali and/or Hindipreferred
  • Experience working in Nepal preferred
  • Strong verbal and written organization skills
  • Strong organizational skills, comfortable multi-tasking and working in a fast-paced, changing work environment
  • Willingness to travel and work in earthquake-affected districts
  • Able to operate independently and as part of a team
