Nepal GoodWeave Foundation (formerly Nepal RugMark Foundation) is a Non-Profit making and Non-Government Organization established in December 1995 AD as a result of collaboration among Carpet Entrepreneurs, Child Rights NGOs, and International Development Organizations, viz. UNICEF, the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and the Asian American Free Labour Institute (AAFLI).

Being a country affiliate of GoodWeave International (GWI), Nepal GoodWeave Foundation (NGF) has proven to be a viable initiative to effectively address the child labor issues in the carpet industry of Nepal. In its more than 24 years of operation in Nepal, it has been able to bring more than 50% of the carpet industry to the GoodWeave’s viable standards including carpet weaving and spinning sectors. Moreover, it is largely expanding towards covering the entire carpet industry of Nepal and replicating its sustainable model to other industries.

Through its multi-pronged approach along with Inspection, Monitoring and Certification mechanism, GoodWeave tries to maintain child labor free environment in the Nepali carpet industry in preventing children to enter into the factories as child laborers. On the other hand, it provides meaningful alternatives like education, rehabilitation and skills development trainins to the children through its various programs and activities.

Job Description

This newly added position will work closely with the Head of the NGF National Inspection Unit and GWI Central Inspection Division in Varanasi, India, to monitor and audit both carpet production facilities and brick kilns. This new inspection supervisor is expected to bring a new level of leadership to NGF’s six‐person inspection team.

Inspections, Monitoring and Supply Chain Mapping:

  • Conduct announced and unannounced monitoring and inspections in the licensee members' carpet supply chains and targeted brick kilns to verify compliance with the GoodWeave standard.
  • Visit associated carpet and brick production facilities in the country as per need, seeking information during visits.
  • Remove child labourers from factories and/or kilns for rehabilitation programmes following existing policies.
  • Counsel factory and kiln owners, labour contractors and workers on maintaining child‐, bonded‐ and forced‐labour free environments in the carpet factories and kilns.
  • Supervise and support other staff of the IMC (Inspections Monitoring Certification) section as a team leader and co‐ordinate the work with Child Development Section and Accounts Section.

Duration: Two Years (with six months probation period)
Age: 25‐35 years

Qualification and Experience:

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Sociology/Social Work or similar field with at least 2 years of social auditing, social compliance or activity monitoring experience.
  • Skills in verification of compliance through different methodologies such as worker interviews, management interviews, documents review & visual inspection.
  • Basic knowledge of national and International labour Laws & standards.
  • Good command in English and Nepali languages and good computer skills.
  • Strong written English and report writing skills.
