Job Description

Duty Station: Kathmandu, with 25-30% travel to project sites and partner organizations.
Estimated start date: as soon as possible

About the position: this position holder will be part of the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEAL) Team. Under the direct supervision of the Head of MEAL, the holder of this position will implement high quality and appropriate M& E & learning processes that uphold Shechen Karuna's reputation as a critically reflective and analytical learning organization. Due to the small nature of the team, s/he will also be expected to provide direct M&E support to program staff and documentation process as well.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Manage and Support MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning) activities
  • As part of MEAL Team contribute to the overall development of the organization

Essential Responsibilities

1.Manage and Support MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning) activities

  • Support the MEAL Manager in executing the Shechen Karuna's M&E strategy
  • Support in the effective design, coordination and delivery of M&E for all the projects
  • Contributing to the development and utilization of monitoring tools, including pre and post training tests, surveys, discussion guides etc., and ensuring that the data tools are properly used
  • Support in organizing data collection and analysis for beneficiary and community selection
  • Developing survey questionnaires
  • Support in facilitating and monitoring research activities (e.g., key informant/in-depth interviews, focus group sessions, quantitative surveys, baseline and end line survey etc.), working to time, budget and high quality
  • Support in the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data, interpretation and communication of learnings to relevant/key Project and Management teams, to aid strategic thinking and decision making
  • Support M&E Manager in preparation, verification of data for monthly, quarterly and annual reports
  • Support the procurement of freelancers/ enumerators for M&E activities
  • Train and manage enumerators and other temporary M&E workers on use of monitoring and evaluation tools and ensure proper implementation
  • Undertake the supervision and ensure quality control/assurance of M&E fieldwork
  • Undertake administrative duties to include documentation, pre-field work logistic planning and resource acquisition. As well as findings from quality audit and store in project files to ensure collective and sustainable access
  • Establish and maintain a project monitoring database system
  • Travel regularly to support programs team to conduct site monitoring activities in respective implementation sites
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop Shechen Karuna's programs
  • Suggest and manage the adaptation process of learnings obtained during program evaluation
  • Communicate learning for internal and external audiences

2. As part of MEAL Team contribute to the overall development of the organization

  • Assist in developing M&E & learning components for new program proposals, including M&E budgets
  • Take active participation in critical thinking and learning processes such as reflection and review processes, Theory of Change (ToC) development and clarification, use of project planning questions
  • Assist in due documentation process of Shechen Karuna's program for compliance
  • Maintain open and professional relations with other staffs, promoting a strong team spirit and providing oversight and guidance to enable staff to successfully perform in their positions
  • Contribute in annual planning of the organization’s annual work plans and budget development alongside the ICD Officer, in conjunction with other departments

3. Any other work requested by Head of MEAL and Executive Director

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience working in monitoring and evaluation field
  • Strong report writing skills
  • Strong analytical, critical and creative skills
  • Ability to travel and work in remote areas with diverse range of people
  • Extensive knowledge of data collection methods and ability to develop data collecting tools and work with existing tools
  • Ability to provide ideas and recommendations to resolve issues
  • High level of integrity and commitment to professional responsibilities
  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office applications and other applications relevant for monitoring and evaluation purpose

Minimum Qualification:

  • Master’s degree with 3 years of professional experience or Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of experience in Non-Profit Sector for Monitoring & Evaluation

Note: Salary of NPR 45,000 - 50,000 per month based on experience and skills
