Digo Bikash Samaj (DBS) Bhajani Kailali is an umbrella organization of networks of non- governmental organizations known as Community Based organization (CBO). DBS Bhajani Kailali is a non-governmental, non - profitable, non- political organization registered in the District administration office and affiliated with the social welfare council Nepal and NGOF Kaialali. DBS has been working in the field of Livelihood, WASH and Sanitation, Disaster Risk Management/Climate change Adaptation, Good governance and Right Protection and Institutional Capacity development.

DBS has been implementing COVID-19 Emergency Response project from July 2021  in Kailali District, which is being supported by LWF Nepal. DBS will now establish a call center as a part of the project, with the objective to enhace the access of the most vulnerable populations to WHO and GON prescribed COVID-19 messages and mental health and psychosocial support. Therefore, DBS- Bhajani Kailali is seeking qualified, dynamic and motivated Nepali citizens for the following position for smooth implementation of the project.

  • Minimum qualification of AMN, HA, PCL Nursing, +2 or related fields. Bachelor’s degree will be an asset
  • At least 6 month’s certified training related to mental health and psychosocial counselling
  • At least 1 year of professional experience in psychological and counseling field
  • Priority will be given to those having working experience during COVID-19 pandemic
  • Excellent report writing skills, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Package is preferred

Job Description

Position Summary: 

The Mental Health and Psychosocial Counselor will be responsible for providing COVID related information, life saving tips and mental health and psychosocial support counselling in the allocated project area to target population (COVID-19 patients, post-COVID patients, COVID-19 affected families, etc.) while being stationed in District Health Office, Dhangadhi. He/she will report directly to the In-charge of DHO and the Project Officer of DFAT COVID-19 Emergency Response Project while ensuring that the activities are implemented according to the plan in an appropriate, relevant, effective, timely, coordinated and complementary manner. The counsellor will also play a key role in actively seeking synergies with other components of the program.

Major Responsibility:  

  • Plan and conduct telephonic counseling session/ psychosocial first aid (PFA) in the allocated project areas to the target beneficiaries
  • Provide the updated COVID-19 related information and life saving tips to the beneficiaries
  • Establish formalized referral pathways within the communities of work to available services
  • Ensure follow up of cases in a timely manner
  • Promote positive mental health and wellbeing through provision of key messages on constructive coping mechanisms
  • Raise awareness regarding the availability of mental health, psychosocial support and protection services
  • Identify and refer cases for more specialized case management services
  • Contribute to data collection and proper reporting and recording of the collected information
  • Maintain confidentiality to document client interaction and interventions using the relevant tools
  • Support the supervisor in compiling weekly and monthly reports to provide information on activities conducted, topics discussed, challenges faced
  • Maintain effective working relationships with all relevant stakeholders including other NGOs, civil society groups, authorities, etc.
  • Ensure that materials and facilities are fully functioning and ready to provide activities (logistically, capacity)
