The Oda Foundation, in tandem with local leaders, private partners and government support, develops integrative community development solutions for some of Nepal's most geographically isolated communities. Headquartered in the district of Kalikot, the foundation has concentrated healthcare and education initiatives while providing additional community needs as they are identified.

Medical Officer & Municipality Health Advisor – Kalikot

The Oda Foundation Medical Officer & Municipality Health Advisor is a position made possible by the collaboration of The Oda Foundation and Mahabai Gaunpalika. This public private partnership approach to enhancing access to, and quality of, healthcare in Mahabai Gaunpalika will be of utmost importance.

a. Medical Officer

The Oda Foundation Medical Officer will be responsible for overseeing the OPD and on-call duties within our clinic being upgraded to a 15-bedded hospital. He or She will have to take responsibility as hospital head and work closely with our medical team to provide the highest possible quality of care to patients on a daily basis. This individual will also work closely with other Oda Foundation departments to ensure an integrative approach is taken to healthcare. The Medical Officer will hold the highest level of formal medical education among our medical team and thus will be expected to take on a teaching role during CMEs and whenever applicable.

b. Municipality Health Advisor 

The Medical Officer is an integral part of our healthcare efforts and is therefore expected to engage in healthcare solutions that go beyond the Oda clinic walls – collaborating with other Oda Foundation community initiatives and local government partners to achieve the most sustainable and successful outcome. This will include being involved in our effort to unite municipality-wide healthcare efforts by providing medical consultation to all junior medical professionals stationed at various health posts throughout the municipality, as well as involving them in medical educational programs held at the Oda Foundation.

This position will require managerial and relationship building skills. This individual will be required to engage in meetings with community members, government officials, and other key stakeholders of the region. We are looking for someone who understands that quality healthcare requires proper skills in the clinic, as well as active engagement with the community. 

Duties and Responsibilities of the employee

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working in the Oda Foundation Primary Healthcare Center as the Medical Officer
  • Engaging in preventative healthcare programs
  • Investing in the professional development of junior medical staff members
  • Engaging with key stakeholders when necessary including: local leaders, patients, local government, private partners
  • Supporting other health posts around the municipality and by providing medical consultation to all junior medical professionals stationed at various health posts throughout the municipality, as well as involving them in medical educational programs held at the Oda Foundation.
  • Participating in regular meetings with Oda Foundation staff regarding the status of our medical care and its reach into the community; Sitting on the Oda Foundation referral committee 
  • Managing data systems including the creation of data reports for the clinic
  • Supporting general healthcare system development of the organization
  • Supervising annual Fellows joining the Healthcare Department
  • Coordinating with Kalikot District Hospital, Manma as well as Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS), Jumla regarding patient care and opportunities for collaboration.
  • Supervision and regular evaluation of laboratory and Medical pharmacy, duties/responsibilities for medical and paramedical staffs (H.A., Pharmacist, Lab Technician, Nurse, A.N.M., A.H.W.) and non-medical staffs (Cashier, Guards, cleaners)
  • Performing USG scans
  • Bringing enthusiasm to a predominantly local, but also international team

  • Additional medical certificates (i.e.: abortion approval, USG machine approval, etc.) will be a plus

Working Arrangement

  • Workstation is Mahabai Rural Municipality, Kalikot
  • The MO will be required to physically stay at least 24 days per month in working station
  • OPD hours are 10:00 am to 2:00 pm with emergency cases at any hour. The MO will serve as a doctor on call in case of emergency cases. The MO will have H.A. and other staff in supporting role

Reporting Line

While the MO will serve as the technical expert and will hold the key command in medical case management, the MO shall report to the Clinic Manager who is equipped with knowledge and experience of working in the rural setting of Mahabai Rural Municipality and continues to serve as the  Management In-Charge.
