INTRODUCTION
Save the Children International is a 'dual mandate' organisation and as such equal priority will be given to both humanitarian and development work. This is the only way we will be able to ensure that some of the fundamental rights that we believe children have, such as survival, safety and constant access to protection and education can be guaranteed. As part of a commitment to work with children through humanitarian interventions Save the Children will support programmes in both sudden onset and chronic emergency situations.

Save the Children Nepal Country Office is intending to provide humanitarian response in various districts in the earthquake affected areas. In this context, SC is seeking to recruit dedicated and qualified candidates as the short-term staff with different expertise to response to these affected areas in various sectors.

BRIEF POSITION DESCRIPTION
The MEAL Assistant will be responsible to handle toll free hotline number, complaint and response mechanism including maintaining complaint database and update MEAL related information in MEAL OPMIS system in close supervision of MEAL Officer.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To ensure that accountability to beneficiaries and transparency become integral part of all program interventions;
  • To receive and register complaints and their responses in complaint database in the assigned area.
  • Makes sure that complaints are logged in a professional and timely manner;
  • To respond and communicate with the beneficiaries in a dignified manner regarding their complaints/feedback;
  • To provides support in ensuring that all SC intervention has accountability panaflexes/banners;
  • To keep regular follow up of complaints and update complaint database on daily basis;
  • To carry out field visits when required for different MEAL tasks;
  • To ensure display of program standards (panaflexes) at each of program delivery site;
  • To handle complaints as per MEAL guidelines and shares the information with relative staff member;
  • To assist MEAL Officer in all MEAL tasks including monitoring reports, assessments and studies;
  • Conduct training and awareness raising activities for PNGO operations and programme technical staff at field level regarding MEAL priorities and quality standards. 
  • Supporting Save the Children’s dual mandate of development programmes as well as being the leader in emergency preparedness and response for children.
  • Any other task assigned by line manager within purview of MEAL;

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • At least Intermediate level education in any Social Science
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in monitoring and evaluation and/or research preferably with INGOs
  • Good computer knowledge
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of regional language (s) and context
  • Demonstrated ability to work in insecure environments 
  • Ability and willingness to travel
  • Stress management skills
  • Time management skills

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The position holder is expected to be ready for the deployment in any of the affected district(s) at short notice. S/he will normally work unusual hours and are often working in stressful and insecure environments
