Population Media Nepal (PMN) is a non-profit organization established in January 2018 in Nepal. PMN uses entertainment-education and mass media to promote social and cultural change by addressing the interconnected issues of the full rights of women and girls, population, and the environment.

The unique Social and Behavior Change Methodology which has been rigorously and repeatedly tested and proven in a dozen other countries by Population Media Center is applied to bring about measurable changes in knowledge, attitudes, and practices. It has produced Mai Sari Sunakhari (‘Orchid Like Me’), a 204-episode Nepali radio serial drama and Hilkor (‘Ripples in the Water’), a 104-episode Maithili radio serial drama that featured issues of child marriage, family planning, gender-based violence (GBV), maternal and child health, nutrition, migration, and reproductive health. PMN has been working with young adolescents of Province 2 on community based theater and campaigns to motivate positive behaviors and normative change in deep rooted social issues.

Title: Marketing and Communication Officer, Population Media Nepal (PMN)
Working hours: Part-time, 20 hours a week
Reports To: Director, Population Media Nepal
Location: Kathmandu, Nepal

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the PMN Director, the Marketing & Communications Officer spearheads the implementation of integrated marketing strategies aimed at expanding audience reach, securing funding, and bolstering PMN's brand and mission. Collaborating closely with the Director, Production Team, Creative Teams, and Monitoring and Evaluation team, their role encompasses:

1. Increasing audience engagement and fostering public interest in entertainment:

  • Develop and execute promotional plans for PMN’s communication campaigns and initiatives, liaising with media outlets, the formative research team, and creative teams. Establish clear timelines and deliverables.
  • Generate compelling messages and materials tailored to diverse audiences, encompassing print and digital platforms such as presentations, brochures, websites, and social media content.
  • Coordinate with Creative, Research, and Leadership teams to align marketing efforts with strategic objectives and ensure consistencywith PMN’s mission and vision.
  • Capture events and productions through documentation, photography, and videography, while also managing social media accounts.
  • Create issue-focused media content in collaboration with the PMN Director.
  • Collaborate on budget planning with the PMN Director and financial officers.
  • Cultivate media relationships, draft and distribute press releases, and represent PMN in interviews and speaking engagements.

2. Crafting impactful stories showcasing PMN’s influence:

  • Continuously identify and produce multimedia narratives highlighting PMN’s impact on individual listeners, partners, and public opinion.
  • Educate in-country teams on PMN’s brand, audience, and marketing objectives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Maintain organized tracking of marketing efforts and regularly update the Director.
  • Assist in compiling reports on promotional activities for government stakeholders, donors, and project partners.
  • Stay informed on social and behavior change communications, international development, and funding trends.

3. Managing PMN’s brand perception:

  • Uphold and reinforce PMN's brand identity by fostering internal understanding and articulation of PMN's mission and value proposition.
  • Ensure consistency in messaging and visual presentation across all communication materials and platforms.
  • Safeguard PMN's reputation by ensuring marketing promises align with actual deliverables.

By executing these responsibilities effectively, the Marketing & Communications Officer plays a pivotal role in enhancing PMN's visibility, impact, and reputation in the market.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum bachelor’s degree in marketing and communications, CIM Professional Postgraduate Diploma, or Social Behavior Change advanced qualification
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in the design, management, and implementation of marketing and communications strategy
  • Strong organizational and personnel skills and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of graphic design
  • Strong brand management background
  • Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud and MS Office preferred
  • Strong knowledge of website architecture and content strategy preferred
  • Familiarity with audience research methodologies and segmentation techniques to target specific demographics
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and experience with Word is preferred
  • Proficiency in English preferred
  • Experience in managing donor-funded communication activities is an added advantage
  • Ability to think creatively and adaptively in finding solutions to marketing challenges
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
