Job Description

Purpose:  The livelihoods program is a key sector in World Vision’s Nepal Earthquake Response recovery strategy. The goal of the program is to restore and sustain the livelihoods of affected communities, and enable them to become more resilient to future shocks. The project will also adopt a cash-based programs component with the aim of provide additional financial support to these communities.  

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Provide technical and operational guidance to WVIN’s local NGO partners and ensure that program activities are being carried out in a timely and effective manner, and to a high standard. 
  • Provide extensive project monitoring, and conduct site visits within the various Districts where WVIN is operational. 
  • Coordinate closely with government agencies such as the DDRC, NGOs/INGOs, community representatives, market vendors, food security and cash coordination clusters, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of program activities. 
  • Ensure integration and co-ordination across other focus sectors including: Health, WASH, Education and Infrastructure. 
  • Ensure financial expenditures are properly tracked and reported 
  • Consolidate district project progress reports and other reports as required
  • Together with the Sector Manager, matrix manage District based Livelihood staff, in coordination with District Managers.
  • In close collaboration with the Programs Team, provide technical inputs to project development and design/redesign.
  • Ensure that the sector program incorporates appropriate elements of accountability, monitoring and evaluation, gender, child protection, disabilities and other relevant themes.
  • Seek innovative ways for delivering sector related deliverables, including contracts and partnering arrangements with private companies in ways which optimize value for money.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from a recognized university with at least 3 years of field experience implementing livelihoods or economic development programs. Alternatively, work experience with a major NGO in a rural or remote district of Nepal in an emergency context will be considered. A Master’s Degree in a related field is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge / experience with market-driven livelihoods programming
  • Understanding of livelihoods programming with an empowerment approach including community-led activities and advocacy
  • Good understanding of project cycles, project design, planning, monitoring and evaluation
  • Good capacity-building skills, and experience working with local and international consultants / advisors, and Government of Nepal partners
  • Excellent oral and written English & Nepali.
  • Good budget and grant financial management skills  
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications including use of Microsoft Office 
  • Hold a high level of integrity and honesty, self-motivated, confident, and able to work independently.
