Job Description

  • To work with pupils on a one to one or group basis as required by the HoALN.
  • To learn about and research the methods of working with children with complex Additional Learning Needs like cerebral palsy, speech and language difficulties, attention deficit disorders.
  • To motivate and encourage pupils in their learning using strategies to build self-esteem, communication and organisational skills.
  • To assist children in their learning in order for them to develop academically, creatively, socially and emotionally.
  • To model excellent language skills at all times.
  • To establish a supportive relationship with the student/s concerned.
  • To establish acceptance and inclusion of the student/s in the classroom.
  • To offer a minimum of one club per week per year or to support the student/s during clubs.
  • To supervise and support student/s at break times and lunch times.
  • Proactively, monitor progress of the pupil and adapt and develop learning strategies accordingly.
  • Contribute regularly to the continuous evaluation and analysis of individual pupil achievement through meetings with class or subject teachers and HoALN, and maintain records accordingly.
  • Investigate, source and create resources for the teaching and learning support team that will support curriculum planning and delivery.
  • Work alongside CLS to assist targeted pupils in addressing knowledge gaps.
  • Deliver effective interventions and guided sessions by planning and making adjustments to learning activities to ensure pupil progress in their learning.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans(IEP), Behaviour Plans(IBIP), Individual Learning Programs(ILP) and Language Development(LD).
  • Access long term and short term curriculum planning in advance of sessions to ensure readiness for learning.
  • Identify and prepare appropriate resources to meet the variety of pupil needs including ALN or EAL.
  • To be aware of and comply with the policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security and to refer all concerns to the Child Protection Officer, receiving training where necessary from the school.
  • To treat all information relating to a pupil as strictly confidential, and to be aware of and comply with school policy and practice, receiving training where necessary from the school.
  • To contribute to the review of the Additional Learning Needs Policy and the development of Departmental Action Plans
