The Himalayan Innovative Society (THIS), established in 2003, is a non-governmental organization working closely with the Nepal Government in the family reintegration of children rescued from vulnerable child care institutions in Nepal. We work in communities to prevent family-child separation through community awareness informing the psychological harms of child institutionalization, educating parents and strengthening gatekeeping system in Nepal.
We have supported over 1000 children directly and indirectly through our various projects since 2003.
We have a transitional care center in Kathmandu, where children rescued by Nepal Government from vulnerable child care institutions are rehabilitated for a temporary period, healed, and prepared for family reunification.

The NGN-THIS Junior Youth Flat (JYF) is where Nepali youth stay in Kathmandu whilst studying under the auspices of the Empowerment Project. The JYF is specifically for those youth studying in Class up to 10 or School Leaving Certificate (SLC) level (older youth studying for +2, diplomas or bachelor degrees live in the Senior Youth Flats or hostels). There are currently 18 youth living the JYF, of which 12 are boys and 6 are girls. They are aged between 12 and 19.
The JYF provides a secure, homely, family-based environment for vulnerable young people " predominantly from Humla " whilst they are studying in Kathmandu. There are three floors in the JYF: one for girls, one for boys, and one which is known as the 'family unit' for younger trafficked children whose families we have been unable to locate and are now studying under the Empowerment Project. There are currently 2 staff members living in the JYF whose role it is to care for the young people there.
Objective: JYF Manager/Mentor is responsible for overseeing the operation of all affairs in the JYF under the supervision of Empowerment Project Manager. He should ideally be a strong and inspiring male figure, and he would provide high quality care for all the junior youth and management for the staff. He provides effective mentoring, discipline, counseling and supports to develop their life skills, education and overall development of all youth in the flat. The JYF Manager is also responsible for creating an environment that encourages the youth to be positive, engaged, and active members of society, and who are committed to their education.
