Title:         IT and Digital Content Associate
Based:   Kathmandu
Duration:  6 months initially (with the possibility of extension)

Context

BBC Media Action uses various forms of media and communications to tackle poverty and contribute to long-term change in some of the world’s poorest places. To achieve this, we partner with civil society, local media and governments to produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences; and strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure. 

BBC Media Action has been working on communication for development projects in Nepal since 2007 giving us a well-developed understanding of Nepali audiences and significant experience of producing and evaluating media content on a range of issues to diverse target audiences. Our work in Nepal focuses on health, governance, resilience, humanitarian preparedness, and response with strong gender.

Job purpose

 The job holder will be responsible for providing overall IT support to BBC Media Action Nepal office by working closely with the UK Change and IT Team and provide overall IT support to BBC Media Action Nepal office and manage and support our social media handles while ensuring the security and integrity of the accounts. S/he will be part of the BBC Media Action Global IT team and will be expected to participate in Global IT meetings. 
 

Main duties

  • Administer/Manage the following:
    - deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of current IT systems within    BBC Media Action Nepal office operations
    - Total network, core switch, Routing and Firewall
    - Storage system (SAN or NAS Drives)
    - Antivirus alerts and action. 
  • Inventory and asset management for IT and production equipment including licenses. 
  • Oversee provision of IT Support for the office and for production teams in outdoor workshops, live events and outdoor broadcasts. 
  • Conduct IT Induction, IT Training and knowledge sharing to users on different Media Action systems like Microsoft 365, SharePoint, MS Teams, OneDrive etc.
  • Configure and support any bespoke organisational systems e.g., Finance System, Payroll system etc.
  • Review and update team members' account access permissions on a regular basis, deleting any unneeded access.
  • Monitor account activity for any unusual activity and take immediate action if a breach is suspected as per organisational policies.
  • User desktop, laptop, printer, scanner maintenance and troubleshooting. 

Essential skills and experience

  • University degree and relevant qualifications, preferably with a technical bias e.g., electronics, media technology and demonstrable practical experience.
  • Progressive IT experience, including experience in a multi-office environment. Experience in working with non-profits and/or membership organisations preferred.
  • Knowledge of Adobe creative cloud (Premiere pro, Audition, Photoshop, etc.), Microsoft 365, Windows Domain, Windows Operating system.
  • Ability to technically service and support PCs, printers, scanners, including the installation and configuration of Operating system (Win 10/11), Microsoft 365, Adobe creative cloud and applications through Software center.
  • Proven experience managing social media accounts, ideally in a corporate or organisational setting.
  • Strong knowledge of different social media platforms, their features, and best practices.
  • Sound understanding of networking hardware, storage systems and backup utilities.
  • Experience providing technical support in an AV, broadcast, technology, or similar environment, either in studio or outside broadcast environment. 

Desirable skills and experience 

  • Demonstrable creative ability. 
  • Progressive IT experience, including experience in a multi-office environment. Experience of working with non-profits and/or membership organisations preferred.
  • Solid experience working with Microsoft 365, Windows Domain.
  • Creative thinker and able to find solutions to a variety of issues.
  • Excellent communication skills in English will be an added advantage.
  • Flexibility, creativity, and effectiveness in working collaboratively in a multicultural team.
  • High degree of self-motivation, planning and organisation, and strategic thinking.
