Lacuna is currently witnessing growth and is looking for a Socio-Political Researcher who will add value to a dynamic, multi-skilled and passionate group of individuals. The successful candidate, based in Kathmandu, Nepal, will work with the team, researching, monitoring and analyzing trends impacting the energy sector, in Africa, as well as globally. 

Areas of Involvement:

• Trend research and analysis in the field of society and individuals
• Trend research and analysis in the field of (geo)-politics and laws
• Main focus of research is (southern) Africa

Primary Responsibilities:

• Scan various media on a daily basis for socio-political trends and events
• Daily analyses of large volumes of information to identify patterns, extract key insights and derive meaning 
• Identify signals of disruption with a focus on social dynamics and political shifts
• Synthesize and simplify complex insights from research
• Work hand-in-hand with an Innovation Lead in researching and delivering relevant content through written reports and verbal presentation
• Ensure text is well written and logically structured 
• Ensure that quality is consistent with client's standards 
• Proofread and fact-check content  
• Extract meaningful conclusions from abstract information

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

• Bachelors or Masters in politics, economics or related fields
• Min. 1-2 years practical work experience
• Passionate about African geopolitics 
• Interest in the energy sector and related technologies
• Eagerness to take on new roles and responsibilities and take ownership when required
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Creative thinking capability
• Analytical, critical and lateral thinking skills
• Trend forecasting, identification and analysis, particularly within the energy sector 
• Ability to investigate, research and connect large amounts of information, and summarise this into workable formats for internal and external purposes.
• Positive attitude and a willingness to “roll your sleeves up”
• Highly motivated, agile and a quick learner 
• Ability to work within a networked team structure in a high-performance, project-based environment and expectations
