Societies develop by connecting people with each other, with services and with resources in increasingly productive and sustainable ways. Our mission is to enable the most disadvantaged populations to make these connections so that they can advance, for the benefit of all of us.

We do this by helping low- and middle-income countries develop the ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ infrastructure that people need to connect. This can range from creating ‘hard’ infrastructure such as transport networks that link impoverished farmers to markets or communities to health facilities, through to developing ‘soft’ infrastructure such as the institutions, systems and skills required to deliver public services to the disadvantaged or to support inclusive economic growth.

IMC Worldwide: A DT Global Company is working actively on PPP projects in South Asia (including Nepal and Bangladesh) and intends to commission various studies for developing green projects which are beneficial for the environment. To deliver these studies, experts (individuals or firms) are required.

The technical requirements are detailed below, but in addition it is essential that the experts have the following skills and attitude:

  • Analytical mindset
  • Curiosity to dig and find data
  • Excellence/ Comfort with numbers
  • Expertise in MS packages

Whilst technical specific knowledge is required, the attitude and the ability to convince IMC on how these studies will be executed, is of extreme importance. Please note, these assignments are considered prefeasibility studies as they will be based on estimates without field investigation in most of the cases.

Technical Study of Arun Basin

Requirement of Technical Study

  • Given the number of projects (5 – 3 under planning and 2 under construction/ development) being planned in the basin, a detailed/ comprehensive study delving on the optimum utilization of the Basin is required. In particular, the study will answer the following:
  • Whether or not the operation of upstream projects will hamper the operations of Arun-3+ Lower Arun HEP,
  • Whether upstream projects impart negative impact, such as, increased instantaneous sediment flow into the Arun-3 HEP due to flushing operation,
  • Give a broad indication on the cumulative impact scenario assessing the EIAs and Social Impacts Assessments of the 5 projects given all the 5 projects are all peaking and ROR/storge schemes. Necessary help will be given in this regard by IMC Worldwide.
  • Broad assessment (if available) on the flow durations curves, hydrological data, flood return periods in the cascade system and impacts in the energy generation. Identify the key risks which can arise in the basin because of these developments.
  • Provide an overview of climate change impacts in the sub-basin and in the Arun valley.
  • What is the impact of such high instantaneous flushing in the downstream area of Arun basin (if large instantaneous sediment is collected in Arun-3 dam, the project will also make the flushing arrangement (who will bear the cost?) that will create a situation where large amount of sediment will be travelling downstream in the basin which will be hazardous to the aquatic life and population around the river)?
  • Give a viewpoint on what the geophysical stability of the areas is (subject to availability of data), its exposure to seismic activities and cumulative impacts of seismic activities in the cascade. Data and requisite details from the DPRs of the Arun 3 and the Lower Arun will be shared with the Consultant along with support from IMC Worldwide.

Experience

  • The hydro expert should have sufficient experience in carrying out similar basin studies globally and preference will be given for expertise in the South Asian region.
