Department: Monastic Student Affairs & Administration
Reports To: Head Lama / Principal or Administrative Director
Employment Type: Part time, (4:00 PM to 9:00 PM)

Job Summary

The Hostel Warden / Monastic Residential Supervisor in our monastery will act as a mentor, and disciplinarian coordinator. The primary focus is to cultivate the positive behavioral traits, moral attitudes, and emotional maturity expected of young monks. Simultaneously, the warden ensures that residents maintain progress in both their secular and monastic studies, all while overseeing a safe and structured living environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Behavioral Cultivation & Attitude Building

Mentor Character: Model and instill monastic values such as humility, respect, mindfulness, gratitude, and community service.
Enforce Discipline: Guide monks to follow the daily monastic schedule strictly, including prayer times, chores, and bedtime.
Correct Behavior: Address and gently but firmly correct negative behavioral traits (e.g., laziness, conflicts, disrespect) using positive reinforcement and Buddhist ethical principles.
Conflict Resolution: Act as a mediator to resolve interpersonal disputes among monks, promoting harmony and brotherhood.

2. Pastoral Care & Emotional Well-being

Support Mental Health: Provide emotional support and guidance to young monks experiencing homesickness, stress, or personal struggles.
Monitor Health & Hygiene: Ensure monks maintain high standards of personal grooming, clean robes, and individual room hygiene.
Handle Medical Emergencies: Take immediate care of sick monks, administer basic first aid, coordinate clinic/hospital visits, and report to senior monastery leadership.

3. Facility Administration

Routine Inspection: Conduct daily checks of the dormitories, study halls, and common areas to ensure exceptional cleanliness.
Coordinate Meals: Work with the kitchen staff to ensure that nutritious meals are served punctually and that monks follow proper dining etiquette.

Required Education Level:Under Graduate (Bachelor)

Required Experience:More than 3 years

Other Specification

Education & Experience

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field. General familiarity with Buddhist philosophy or monastic lifestyles is highly preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of residential experience working with youth, ideally in a boarding school, monastery, or traditional gurukul setting.

Role Modeling: Exemplary personal conduct, high integrity, and a calm disposition under pressure.
Interpersonal Communication: Excellent communication skills to interact with young monks, senior lamas, teachers, and external visitors.
Observation Skills: A sharp eye for subtle changes in a monk's behavior, mood, or declining academic performance.
Language: Fluent in Chinese will be a plus point.
