As defined by the VISION 2025, a strategic guidance, Shechen Karuna Nepal has been working in three regions Terai, Mid-Hills and High-Hills (mountains) in five inter-connected thematic sectors;

This position requires travelling to the field areas often to implement and ensure the programs are run smoothly and efficiently.

Duties and responsibilities include:

Funtional Objective:

This position of Head - Education Unit is responsible for designing, developing, implementing and supervising educational projects in different project areas.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Analyse the education sector in Nepal and support the strategic development of education projects and programs of Shechen-Karuna in Nepal.
  • Design, develop, implement, supervise and monitor education projects in different geographical areas where Shechen-Karuna is active, and as per the Strategic Development Plan of the organization.
  • Work with different teams in Shechen-Karuna to prepare different activities, reports, trainings and workshops as planned or when required for the education projects, and other projects.
  • Ensure supervision of social motivators working in different projects in different project areas and efficiently collaborate and cooperate with them to achieve the desired outcomes.
  • Effectively collaborate with the local bodies and different stakeholders to implement and ensure the programs are organized smoothly.

Essential Duties:

Analyse the education sector and support the strategic development of education projects and programs of Shechen-Karuna in Nepal.

  • Carry out comprehensive analysis of the education sector developments and needs, and advise the Head of Programs and Senior Management Team on strategies and approaches;
  • Keep abreast of changes in development of education policies, regulations and studies;
  • Assist in designing and developing Strategic Development Plan of Nepal with focus on education, and taking into consideration cross-cutting issues like gender, environment, child rights, and social inclusion.

Design, develop, implement, supervise and monitor education projects in different geographical locations where Shechen-Karuna is active, and as per the Strategic Plan of the organization.

  • Coordinate with Head of Programs, and MEAL Department to identify opportunities for new program development and expansion, and play a major role in designing and expanding new education program in line with the Strategic Development Plan of Nepal;
  • For - Promoting Quality Life with Quality Education (ECD Support) Project –coordinate and supervise social mobilizers in the field to implement planned activities; and coordinate with the community schools or ECD Centers, and with the Head of Programs, Head of Admin and Finance, and Director at the Central Office;
  • Be a part of Project Steering Committee of ‘Better Living Option Program (BLOP)’ with members of the ‘implementing partner’ to effectively implement the project, and also advice Karuna-Shechen on the capability of the implementing partner and the effectiveness of the implemented activities;
  • Assist with the development of strategic partnerships with the local community with the creation of Better Future Council, which will co-create, co-implement and co-monitor most of Shechen-Karuna’s activities in the field, and also with Municipality and Ward Level offices.

Work with different teams in Shechen-Karuna to prepare activities, reports, trainings and workshops as planned or when required for the education projects, and other projects, if required or requested.

  • With support from Head of Programs, assist the MEAL department to monitor and evaluate ongoing education projects so the learning from it can be disseminated to the relevant staff
  • Be a part of the team to conduct Social Audit and Evaluation Visit of Social Welfare Council at the end of each project cycle.
  • For every activity implemented and field trips undertaken, prepare a report in the developed format, and submit to Head of Programs, MEAL, and Admin & Finance;
  • Submit activities report every month based on the tasks undertake in both the field and the central offices, coordinate with staff for it;
  • Organize and coordinate trainings, monitor output, provide feedback on such activities undertaken by other staff, and if required compile report of the activities;
  • Attend meetings in the Central Office, Field Office or Online if required.

Other duties as assigned by the Head of Program and the Executive Director.

Competency Required:

  • Preferable Masters in Education, Social Science, Development Studies, Rural Development or Management with three years of experience working in program department. Experience related to Education is additional benefit.
  • Bachelors in Education, Social Science, Development Studies, Rural Development or Management with five years of experience working in program department, specifically in Education- thematic area.
  • Experience in managing and supervising teams and delivering projects within deadlines.
  • Experience working with local bodies such as rural municipality and ward offices.
  • Knowledge and experience regarding Early Childhood Development (ECD), Parental

Education and Life Skills Training Programs:

  • Experience in facilitating meetings
  • Experience in providing feedback to people in a culturally appropriate way
  • Teaching /training experience
  • Experience of working with children
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and work with children’s curriculums
  • Knowledge and skills of using Microsoft office package
  • Ability to write projects, reports and documentation of information such as records/minutes of meetings

Personal Skills Required:

  • Ability to work independently and accomplished the assigned task within the deadline.
  • People Centric nature, good communication skills and team player.
  • Demonstrated experience in building strong relationships with people
  • Excellent communication skills in both Nepali and English
  • Comfortable travelling to rural project areas often and previous experiences regarding field travel.

Note: Basic Salary of NPR 52,000 - 57,000 per month based on experience and skills. Communication Package and DSA (Daily Subsistence Allowance) while travelling to field areas will be as per organization’s policy.
