The American Mission Association (AMA) is a member-focused recreation association that serves the U.S. Mission community in Nepal. Our property is on an eight-acre site in the heart of Kathmandu offering a soccer field, café, gym, running track, swimming pool, and tennis courts. The green space is unmatched in this urban city center. We are a gathering place for our community, and we're looking for a capable leader to help us grow.

The Opportunity

As General Manager, you will serve as AMA's chief operating officer. You'll answer to the Board of Directors for running the association well. This covers operations, finances, regulatory compliance, and communications. You'll lead a team that includes the Director of Operations, the Comptroller, and site managers. You'll also be the main point of contact for members and the Board of Directors.

What You'll Do

Advise and Support the Board

Advise the Board of Directors and its committees. Schedule meetings, prepare agendas, report on operations, finances, and progress toward goals, and keep the Board informed of critical issues and required actions.
Give the Board organizational and financial strategy recommendations, with the data it needs to make informed decisions.
Organize and run annual Board elections.

Build Partnerships and Meet Compliance Requirements

Make sure AMA meets all regulatory requirements, including submitting reports and audits on time.

Serve Our Members

Act as the "face" of AMA. Put customer service first and resolve complaints quickly.
Lead the planning of community-building events that draw members to the club.
Create, update, communicate, and enforce member rules and policies.
Produce promotional materials, surveys, and updates on AMA services and Board activities.

Run Operations

Lead safety and risk management. Create health and safety guidelines and build a risk-aware culture.
Write directives, manuals, and standard operating procedures (SOPs), and put approved policies into practice.
Manage authorized facility renovations.

Manage Finances

Direct AMA's finances, with a target profit margin of 10 to 15 percent to fund safety and property upgrades.
Oversee strong internal controls and accounting practices that follow Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Produce timely financial reports for all cost centers.
Arrange an independent audit every year.
Negotiate vendor contracts and manage vendor relationships, consulting outside legal counsel as needed.

Lead the Team

Recruit, supervise, evaluate, and separate staff. Build a culture of performance, empowerment, real-time feedback, and teamwork across departments.
Make work assignments and schedules, and delegate authority to cost center managers.
Mediate disputes between departments and handle employer-employee relations.
Lead the leadership team in short- and long-term strategic planning, using regular program and financial analysis.

Oversee Supply and Inventory

Oversee procurement, warehouse operations, and merchandising policies within the approved budget.
Maintain internal controls against theft, including surprise cash and inventory counts.
Oversee the annual inventory of merchandise, equipment, and supplies.
Coordinate regular food safety inspections.

Bachelor's degree with related field
Five years of leadership experience, including supervising direct reports
Five years of experience in the hospitality or service industry
Experience creating, implementing, and updating policies and procedures
Experience managing operating revenue, expense budgets, and capital expenditure budgets
Experience negotiating contracts and managing vendors to make sure contract terms are met
Excellent English reading, writing, and speaking skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Adequate Nepali to communicate with staff who are not required to speak English
Eligibility to work in Nepal through citizenship or a work visa

Preferred Qualifications

Two years leading food and beverage services in hospitality
Knowledge of GAAP accounting and audits
Experience running building operations
Valid driver's license
