Job Description

1. Background and Context:

The Hospital and Rehabilitation Center for Disabled Children (HRDC) aims to promote gender-related activities and empower gender advocates within the organization. The program recognizes the importance of gender mainstreaming and seeks to create an inclusive and equitable environment for all stakeholders, including staff, patients, and their families.

2. Objectives:

The primary objectives of the Gender Consultant role are as follows:

  • Conduct a comprehensive gender assessment within HRDC to identify existing gaps, challenges, and opportunities related to gender equality and inclusion
  • Design and deliver training programs to build the capacity of designated Gender Advocates within HRDC, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to advocate for gender equality and promote gender-sensitive practices.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to HRDC staff in incorporating gender perspectives into their respective areas of work, such as healthcare services, rehabilitation programs, and community outreach initiatives.

3. Scope of Work:

The Gender Consultant will be responsible for the following tasks:

Gender Assessment:

  • Conduct a comprehensive gender assessment within HRDC, including a review of existing policies, procedures, and practices related to gender equality and inclusion.
  • Identify gaps, challenges, and opportunities for improvement through consultations with staff, patients, and other stakeholders.

Training and Capacity Building:

  • Design and deliver training programs for designated Gender Advocates within HRDC, covering topics such as gender sensitivity, gender analysis, gender-responsive programming, and advocacy skills.
  • Develop training materials, facilitation guides, and other resources to support the training programs.
  • Provide ongoing mentoring and support to Gender Advocates to enhance their knowledge and skills.

Technical Guidance and Support:

  • Provide technical guidance and support to HRDC staff in integrating gender perspectives into their respective areas of work, including healthcare services, rehabilitation programs, and community outreach initiatives.
  • Assist in the review and revision of policies, procedures, and practices to ensure gender-sensitivity and inclusiveness.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to promote gender-responsive programming and service delivery.
  • Develop IEC materials that will be further use in Gender orientation in community level

4. Qualifications and Experience:

The Gender Consultant should possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • Educational Qualifications: Master's degree or equivalent in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field.

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in gender mainstreaming, gender analysis, and gender-responsive programming in the development or healthcare sector.
  • Proven track record in conducting gender assessments, developing gender strategies and action plans, and delivering training programs on gender equality and inclusion.
  • Experience in working with organizations focused on disability rights, healthcare, or related fields would be an added advantage.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of gender theories, frameworks, and best practices in gender mainstreaming.
  • Strong analytical and strategic planning skills, with the ability to develop and implement gender-responsive programs and interventions.
  • Excellent training and facilitation skills, with the ability to design and deliver engaging and effective training programs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex gender-related concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in using relevant software and tools for data analysis, presentation, and reporting.

5. Duration and Location:

The Gender Consultant position is a full-time consultancy for an initial period of 25 days with the possibility of extension based on needs. The consultant will be based at the Hospital and Rehabilitation Center for Disabled Children (HRDC) in Banepa and may be required to travel to other project sites or locations as necessary.

6. Reporting and Supervision:

The Gender Consultant will report directly to the Project Manager of HRDC and will work closely with the program team and relevant stakeholders. The consultant will be responsible for providing regular progress updates and submitting reports as per the agreed timelines.
