Nepal Disabled Women Association (NDWA) is established at 2054 (1998) adopting the values of the fundamental rights and responsibilities provided by the constitution of Nepal in order to support Women with Disabilities (WWDs) to pursue their rights, and provide them protection and livelihood support. Unless WWDs from all sections of the Nepalese community get understanding of their human rights, particularly as ensured by the UN Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and exercise them, their lives will not be bright and prosperous. Thus, NDWA promotes the program to build the capacity of the WWDs living in both urban and remote areas of the country in order to make them capable and empowered so that they will be able to take initiative to exercise their rights. It is vital to empower women from other disadvantaged communities such as women with disabilities from Dalit and Madhesi to build their self- esteem and confidence. In this context, NDWA has an important role to advocate on the issues of WWDs, such as rights to education, health, employment, rehabilitation and social security.

NDWA is looking for experienced and highly qualified Nepali candidate for its “PAHICHAN: advocacy initiatives for the inclusion of women and girls with disabilities in government policies and programs.” Major task of this position is to create and lead policy advocacy and Building leadership for WWDs to achieve its mission. Job Description

Job Summary : 

The overall responsibility of the GBV Manager will be to spearhead the strategic leadership and provide technical guidance from the gender and social inclusion perspectives in and across the program components activities ensuring that gender and social inclusion is mainstreamed into programs and policies. S/he will develop, adapt and apply strategies, guidelines and tools to ensure that gender equity and diversity issues are appropriately analyzed, identified and addressed in program and policies, providing strategic support to program team in building and strengthening their capacity. The GBV Manager will closely work with program component coordinators and M&E specialist for the development of gender and social inclusion responsive monitoring systems and mechanisms. S/he will also coordinate and collaborate with NDWA’s Gender focal person(s) to maintain synergy in approaches and policy discourse at different levels in regard to gender and social Inclusion from the perspectives of women and girls with disabilities.    

Major Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Provide strategic leadership to ensure strong coordination with consortium partners for smooth planning and implementation of project activities
  • Mainstreaming gender and social inclusion into program and organization ensuring social equity and diversity including development/adaptation/application of tools for mainstreaming gender and social inclusion 
  • Work closely with NDWA board, its network and team members
  • Communicate and coordinate with all stakeholders for delivery of project outcomes, outputs and activities ensuring project management standards
  • Prepare annual workplan, budget, presentations and coordinate with admin/finance and logistic teams for smooth running of program
  • To ensure all funding criteria are met, and that programme and legal reports, audits and registrations are submitted in a professional and timely manner
  • Strategic support to program team and other stakeholders in gender and social inclusion mainstreaming initiatives 
  • Lead in capacity building of program team, beneficiaries and partners in gender and social inclusion  
  • Visit to project districts for monitoring, evaluation and reporting
  • Consistency of GESI engagement across the components

Working conditions:

The position requires spending 40% of her/his time in the field for program implementation and monitoring.  

Job Competencies:

Required qualifications:

  • Masters degree in social science, women studies, Gender Studies or other relevant subject with significant working experiences of more than 7 years in applying gender analysis and in-depth knowledge of gender and social inclusion issues from disability perspectives

Required Skills:

  • Gender sensitive, responsive and experience in gender and inclusion mainstreaming from the perspective of women/girls with disabilities
  • Proven ability to think analytically and critically and able to translate ideas into action
  • Experience in conducting in-depth gender-based research and analysis, including community led-participatory assessment/analysis
  • Strong documentation and reporting skills
  • Strong leadership and ability to facilitate change in the organisation
  • Demonstrated ability to work with government institutions to design and implement gender and social inclusion strategies and action plans
  • Excellent skills in capacity strengthening of organization and individual in GBV issues
  • Good experience in facilitating training for diverse target groups
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, facilitation, communication, negotiation and networking
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
  • Ability to work in time pressure
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in English and Nepali languages
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Word, WordPerfect, Excel, PowerPoint)
