Context

Established in 1998, BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity. BBC Media Action uses media and communications to help reduce poverty and support people in claiming their rights, our aim is to inform, connect and empower people around the world. We do this through our focus on health, governance and rights, resilience, and humanitarian response, partnering with civil society, local media and governments to produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences and strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure. 

BBC Media Action global team is seeking potential applicants for the position of “Finance Change Business Partner”. 

Job purpose

This role has two primary objectives: 

• To deliver an expert, professional and quality finance business partnering service to support the effective financial management of BBC Media Action. Key areas include financial analysis, projects, planning, and budget management.
• To provide management of our finance change projects, working with stakeholders across the organisation by providing a responsive and flexible project approach that is business focused and supports the delivery of organisational and strategic priorities.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

A. Supporting the Finance Business Partnering team:  

• Monitor and provide analysis on income and expenditure, and cash inflows and outflows, against forecasts and targets; report material variances and suggest proposed actions to the programmes team.
• Provide monthly financial information to enable effective planning and management.
• Keep abreast of best practice in the sector in relation to managing a range of project agreement types (from commercial contracts to grants) and donor compliance requirements.
• Review of project budget tests and business development proposals. 
• Other duties relating to financial or business development planning for BBC Media Action’s work as directed by the Head of Business Partnering & Analysis.

B. Leading our finance change projects:

• Provide expert financial modelling and analysis to support our organisation strategy and transformation plans.
• Provide expert knowledge and advice on financial controls, systems and processes to ensure strategic change initiatives are designed, implemented and embedded effectively. This is a key role supporting and shaping change that impacts across the finance function.
• Identify and map existing processes and identify opportunities to streamline existing processes and controls. Keep up to date on best practice systems and processes in finance to ensure BBC Media Action is ready to take advantage of opportunities. Drive automation where possible.
• Consult with stakeholders including finance managers, country directors, budget holders, and other relevant teams within the organisation to ensure they are provided with relevant information & insight into systems and process change plans such that they can feed into decisions as appropriate. Nurture and maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders, ensuring a collaborative and collegiate working environment. 
• Working with the Finance Systems Manager, provide support to the financial systems development projects including in the preparation and management of new software projects and upgrades. 
• Manage other change projects within the Finance team as required.

Essential skills/experience:

• Qualified accountant (ACA / CIMA / ACCA) with well-developed technical finance skills. Experience in financial reporting and accounting within an international development charity would be an advantage.
• Proven experience in contributing to and delivering successful change in a business environment, with demonstrable ability to take the lead in improving process and ways of working within a team and with other teams.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to build relationships and negotiate effectively with staff at all levels with the organisation.
• Proven ability of being able to plan and manage own work in a busy environment and to achieve results to tight deadlines in potentially difficult circumstances.
• Proven ability and experience in financial systems supporting management accounting functions for a complex organisation. Proven track record of supporting a range of users, resolving support queries, and delivering user training.
