LOOM works towards harnessing the collective power of women through multi-generational activism, where activists across ages and experiences connect, organise and transform the structures that obstruct our equality. We are a group of individuals and organisations dedicated to movement building, young women’s leadership, sexuality and bodily integrity, LBTQ rights, and feminist politics of the internet.

We aim to bridge feminist leadership and collectives of women’s rights activists and between activists for learning and support, solidarity and sustainability;

Engage in Feminist Epistemologies as a process to collectively produce new and diverse knowledge that dismantles patriarchy, challenges the status quo and sets new agendas;

Advocate for recognition of sexuality as bodily autonomy and human rights rather than prevention of diseases and

Engage with the internet as a political space; we recognise that online violence is a manifestation of offline violence and we build and promote a digital movement that addresses such phenomena.

Job Description

The Executive Director (ED) shall be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations of organization and shall take overall leadership and management of programs and administration in line with the organization’s mission, core values and principles. 

The ED reports to and works closely with the Executive Board in policy decisions, fundraising and to increase the overall visibility of the organization.

Major Responsibilities/Competencies

Feminist values and Principles: Application of feminist values and perspectives;

  •  Applies feminist values and principles in programs, administration, finance and other matters within the organization.

Financial Performance and Viability: Implements financial guidelines, monitors budget flows, and develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization.

  • Overseas planning and operation of the annual budget and annual programs;
  • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of the organization to include submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization;
  • Ensures that financial management guidelines are followed, and guides the finance officer/coordinator for transparency and accountability;
  • Responsible for fiscal management that includes operation within the approved budget, ensures resources are at maximum utilization, and maintains the organization to have a positive financial situation;
  • Approves monthly, quarterly and annual financial and program reports, and guide when/if needed to the finance and program officer/coordinator
  • Play a strategic role in new program/project development and resource generation;
  • Coordinate and maintain effective communications with funding agencies, like-minded organizations, stakeholders, and Executive Board to expand the working area and mobilize team members for fundraising activities.

Organization Mission and Strategy: Works with board and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled;

  • Responsible for developing and implementation of strategy plans, and policies that fulfills the mission of the organization;
  • Represents the organization by becoming active and visible in the national, international and community by working closely with other professionals, academia, organizations, communities among others;
  • Report to the Executive Committee on the operational, administrative, and financial aspects of organization and ensure that the Executive Board is made aware, in a timely way, of key strategic and other operational challenges.

Organization Operations

  • Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the organization are appropriate.
  • Establishing employment and administrative policies and procedures for daily operation;
  • Ensures effective administration of the organization;
  • Responsible for the hiring, promotion, ending contract and retention of staff members including staff appraisal forms, exit interviews etc.;
  • Reviews and approves contracts of consultants, and purchase of other services;
  • Guides and supervise team members in meeting the goals of the programs;
  • Facilitate capacity building activities for program and administrative staff;

Project Responsibility: 

  • Oversees, implements and monitors the women’s engagement in rebuilding project
  • Overall responsible for all the programs and projects and monitors to ensures the overall efficiency of the project
  • Build an effective team of leaders by providing guidance and coaching to subordinate staff members
  • Ensure all policy and donor compliances, quality assurance of project implementation and donor reporting.
