Other Specification
  • Master or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering especially in WASH infrastructures or any other relevant field with at least 5 years of work experience for Master, at least 8 years of work experience for Bachelor in survey, design, cost estimate, and supervision of Water Supply projects (Master is preferable).
  • Registered/Licensed as a professional engineer.
  • Competent with design software, such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, GIS, and other professional software in addition to basic computer literacy (Word, Excel, Power Point including Excel Formula, Word/Power Point layout formatting).
  • Good knowledge on designing, implementing, and supervising construction-related activities. 
  • Experience of project management; especially in WASH Project Training delivery skill on construction, operation and maintenance of Water Supply Schemes.
  • Familiar with government policies/guidelines related to WASH.
  • Fit to travel by walk from one village/scheme to another village/scheme
  • Knowledge on procurement and quality control.
  • Knowledge on the waste management and its basic requirements.
  • Knowledge on green energies and techniques such as solar power.
  • Skill of motivating communities and resolving technical related issues of Water Supply Schemes.
  • Experience of working in INGOs, international organizations, Japanese organizations is advantage.
  • Good understanding of Nepalese and Japanese government rules and regulation, donor guidelines and quality control on organizational based activities.
  • Fluent in English and Nepali, for listening, speaking and writing.
  • Excellent reporting skills in both English and Nepali.
  • Excellent analytical skills and a methodical approach to work.
  • Should have Nepali Typing skills and knowledge for drafting Nepali and English letters to the government authorities and concerned stakeholders
  • Should have two wheelers driving license

Job Description

PWJ is currently looking for a suitable candidate for the Engineer who would be stationed mainly in the Kathmandu office, Sanepa with frequent travels to the fields. The Engineer will work closely with the international staffs, national staffs, partner organizations, rural communities and governmental authorities in the central/local level . S/he will be responsible to support and develop the research and design of WASH related projects of PWJ Nepal office. S/he would also be responsible for communicating with donors, partners, concerned government authorities in central and local level and other stakeholders, based on the decision of the PWJ Nepal office.

Under the overall supervision of PWJ office, the Engineer will perform the following core functions.

  • Developing and conducting initial research for project designing, including sites assessment and technical feasibility studies for project proposals
  • Preparing independently the detailed designs, layouts, BOQ and construction plan for inclusive WASH infrastructure, accuracy of survey and within estimated budget, establish operational and maintenance protocols with minimum supervision. 
  • Development of strategies, plan and capacity building for the improvement and promotion of hygiene habits.
  • Corresponding with relevant government authorities in the central and local levels. as per the directions of PWJ office
  • Preparing required document for the government, relevant authorities
  • Maintain the office document and data
  • Maintain good understanding of Nepalese and Japanese government rules and regulation, donor guidelines and quality control on organizational and project based activities.
  • Carry out any required tasks from his/her supervisor and support in consultation with him/her
